OMG! What the F... have they done! I mean..I love the movie, and Jack is the best Joker of all time, but this grill is just a bad joke. I like the rest of the design, and though there will invariably be some changes made for practicality, which should not drastically alter the lines, I am all in with everything but that grill.
I have coveted the new G82 ever since the specs started to firm up (I'm a track rat), but I have a bad feeling that BMW is totally invested in an all too close form of this grill. I will of course wait to see the actual production model, but I am afraid that there is an end of model F82 in my future.
God I hope this huge grill mania runs it's course to an end soon. I don't care who makes them, or what they are attached to, they are all hideous.

Looks like an infinity from the side/front.

Echoing many other opinions, the front is just too extreme looking and just looks way over done. The side profile looks like a Ford Mustang IMO. I'm just not seeing anything special here or desirable here.

Hey man , you know how you made that list of people who were disbelievers of the grille?

I think you need to make a new list now

Write down every single naysayer and we will revisit their profiles in 2 years
Yeah, I'm going to do that. I can almost guarantee that some will buy the new car. Lol!
Positively, the blind loyalists.

I LOVE BMW and the NEW GRILL... MAKES THE F80/82 look old and geriatric. :happy anim:
The render wasn't that far off dude.
I found the render to be much better looking!

The rest of the car is interesting but the grille is tacky and over the top. I sincerely hope the production car has a smaller and more angled grille. And the stuff inside the grille...ugh just hideous. Tacky is an understatement.
It will not be a smaller grill. You guys have been in denial for months despite spy shots telling you this was coming, and now that it's here you're still having a problem shrugging off that denial. You're going to be in for a long model cycle.
I don't think it's denial, nobody was expecting the grille to be the same size as today's. I think people expected a design pattern that blends well with the car and the enlarged grille trend. So when some see this concept 4 pictures, they don't feel they got the job done. At least I feel that way, that they did a bad overall design job.
They should've been. After all, spy pic after spy pic showed how large the grills were relative to the rest of the bumper/surrounding area. People just chose not to believe it. The front end turned out to be more or less what I was expecting. I've always liked the side profile silhouette, so I have no issues with that. I still feel indifferent about the rear, but it'll grow on me I'm sure.
This would have been good design

The rest of the car looks good, but that grill really needs to be changed before production or, more likely, after the LCI.

I think the sales are going to tank, this is a gift to Elon Musk.

I find it humorous that people make declarative statements about their future based on a concept, a rendering, or even a photo online, prior to seeing the final production item in person...

" I hate this new 4er... I am never buying another BMW again! "

As you mention... after months of griping... many will actually get accustomed to the change and will still buy.

....and what will you say when/if this car is a sales phenomenon? Mercedes basically ran the show for the past 3 years, and the X3, X4 and X7 are the main cars responsible for BMW picking up the pace a bit this year. The company needed to change.

So far only one subgroup has been wrong.

....and there's a list of them in another thread (...who will still be wrong when the production car hits dealerships). Lol!

I agree with your overall point though. If I had a dollar for everybody who said that they wouldn't buy an E9X or F8X, I would be able to purchase a set of used HRE's. Lol!

Something went wrong with the memo.

"Designers, give me thrills !" was mistaken for "Designers, give me grilles !".

This grill is horrible!!! Im on my third M car in different generations and somehow the plot has been lost here ....

I hope Bimmerpost runs a poll on these grills and somehow bmw sees the results before final production car.

An M4 with those grills are laughable
