Different 0-60s M340i xDrive vs M440i xDrive?

BMWUSA.com lists different 0-60 times for the M340i xDrive vs the M440i xDrive
4.1 seconds vs 4.3 seconds

Does anyone know why? I thought they weighed about the same?

According to CarBuzz, the 4 is only 9 pounds heavier (curb weight). The drivetrain should be pretty much identical. Not sure where those two tenths went.

Side note: the 4 is slightly bigger, but same wheelbase. Same tires, though. Too skinny.

Also those times are not accurate for the 2021 they are doing 3.8 secs in in dry conditions and 4-4.1 secs in wet conditions. The assumption is that they lied because the M3/4 are rear drive are rated at 3.9... I'm assuming the AWD versions will do low 3 secs I'm guessing 3.2 secs

I'm not sure this really has anything to do with the M3/M4. BMWs published figures are ALWAYS conservative. That applies to the M340 and M440, and will also apply to the M3/M4. This is just BMW being BMW!

Agreed BMW is notorious for underrating the engine of the cars, but launching a RWD cars with over 500hp on street tires to get under 3.9 seconds is almost impossible 😅

Bmw Z4 M40i 0-60 3.8 Car&Driver tested stock. Also have a tune on mine and i toast those fat muscle cars all day long. My tune is mild and i'm pushing 450hp and i agree with the statement that you can only do so much with RWD but i would say 3.5 0-60 in my case. The Dodge whatever with all that HP goes nowhere. To fat, to much weight in the front to little in rear. Yes hellcat is the exception with that ridiculous HP.

mattwatson at carwow timed the m440i xdrive at 3.8s 0-60, faster than the G82 M4 mfg time.... i don't think the mfg numbers should be paid much attention to.

Funny....I was going to pose this exact question.

I'm still curious, as no one has really seemed to answer the question yet.

We all know BMW 0-60 times are conservative, but why a .2 second discrepancy???

I for one feel that .2 seconds is enough of a difference to raise the question, given the cars have identical powertrains, and weigh almost exactly the same...

Has anyone compared gear ratios between the two???

Identical, based on the data I found.

I don't think the slightly different wheelbase, width, or weight distribution would make much of a difference... Something must be wrong here.
