I LOVE BMW and the NEW GRILL... MAKES THE F80/82 look old and geriatric. :happy anim:
The render wasn't that far off dude.
I found the render to be much better looking!

The rest of the car is interesting but the grille is tacky and over the top. I sincerely hope the production car has a smaller and more angled grille. And the stuff inside the grille...ugh just hideous. Tacky is an understatement.
It will not be a smaller grill. You guys have been in denial for months despite spy shots telling you this was coming, and now that it's here you're still having a problem shrugging off that denial. You're going to be in for a long model cycle.
I don't think it's denial, nobody was expecting the grille to be the same size as today's. I think people expected a design pattern that blends well with the car and the enlarged grille trend. So when some see this concept 4 pictures, they don't feel they got the job done. At least I feel that way, that they did a bad overall design job.
They should've been. After all, spy pic after spy pic showed how large the grills were relative to the rest of the bumper/surrounding area. People just chose not to believe it. The front end turned out to be more or less what I was expecting. I've always liked the side profile silhouette, so I have no issues with that. I still feel indifferent about the rear, but it'll grow on me I'm sure.
The large grill is one thing...

But the separation was really bad and those lines going up down is what actually looked so horrific.

Again, this is just the concept. Yes the grill and overall look will be the same, but especially if you are a potential G8X buyer...don't forget about all the little M touches that can really make a difference.

I for one am excited to see the finished product.

I believe the production 4 grills will have the horizontal slats.

Hey man , you know how you made that list of people who were disbelievers of the grille?

I think you need to make a new list now

Write down every single naysayer and we will revisit their profiles in 2 years
Yeah, I'm going to do that. I can almost guarantee that some will buy the new car. Lol!
Positively, the blind loyalists.

I think they will be like the concept, just like the new Z4 comes with.

And then M Performance Grills being offered as a cosmetic upgrade.

Kind of looks like a 2 door Mazda 6 if you ask me. It has a lot of Japanese styling influence (IMO). It's not bad, but it's not very German either. I kind of like it but will wait for the final copy to reserve judgement.

I'm still deciding if I like it, but after the epic banality of the design of the new 3, at least someone is trying to do something different.

P.S. That is the strangest promotion video I have ever seen...

Best looking BMW since E46. Or ever. That's the only uncertainty.

3 doesn't look like a Lexus, and 4 doesn't look like an Infiniti anywhere at all. It looks like an 8 series except for the grill, which is better looking than 8.

So seriously...
Why would you design a grille knowing that you have to also put a front plate (many, not all locations.. I get that) on the vehicle that will sit in the middle of the grille?!
Makes no sense and will look pretty stupid.

I get (though, don't like) the big grilles on the SUV's.
But this is a sports car!

Obviously I'll wait till I see the final Production model.. but for now, that won't get me to continue my purchases.. from E, to current F but unsure about the G

No. Haters and trolls are always louder.

Also, the most 'appreciated' post in this thread is below:

Not really a fan of the G20 3er's new interior design (doesn't flow as well as other new G interiors), so I'd hope (although doubt) that the 4er will have some changes inside based on the drastic exterior as well as some cooler color choices inside and out unlike every new BMW which is just Grey, Black, White and Blue.

Germans do love them some pork as evident in not only their love for brats, but in this porcine automotive design language.
