I miss the Hofmeister kink more than anything. And the rear-end overhang on the new one is huge.

I suppose it is the natural evolution but it seems to be abandoning the heritage of the kink. The profile looks more like a lexus or nissan than a bmw

Question
With such a large grille What happens in a frontal collision? What strengthens the front part? Is there a metal beam running behind the grille ?

This kind of reminds me of the bangle era, where BMW attempted more creative approaches to try and find themselves. I applaud them for their effort here and look forward to the refinement and different takes this era will bring because, more than likely, they'll settle on something most people like and can move forward. Maybe we'll look back on this and see a diamond in the rough in ten years? Maybe not.
And so the wheel turns. |

No longer looks like it's moving whilst being still. The A- and B-pillars are fighting with the lack of the H. kink. One of the few good things is the lack of a Pep Boys vent behind front wheel well |

I'm thinking BMW cares little of what the Europe or US market thinks. The Chinese market is where it's at now, they're simply following the money. The accountants have been running the show for quite some time.

I like the looks of the new G22. Before we all get in the face of BMW, has anyone checked out the new Audi's which were suppose to challenge BMW with their S and RS series. Bigger f'ing grills. The entire market is against the not-so-old school traditionalists. Although, I am personally old school. What think tanks did they hire to make this what appears to be a global market trend.

There was an interview where the BMW rep said the Chinese market accounts for roughly 10% of 4-series sales and it wasn't factored into the grill design.

https://www.bmwgroup.com/content/dam...anzbericht.pdf This is the 2019 Annual Report. Take a gander, some concerning notes: 1. 4-series sales are down 31.5% from 2018 2. Profit-before-tax is down 3. They advertise the glut of new models as: "The biggest model offensive in our history continues. Nearly all model series have been updated over the past two years. They will be joined this year by new models like the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, highly profitable BMW M models, new plug-in hybrids and electric models. Our portfolio is younger, more attractive and more technologically diverse than ever before. This allows us to meet every customer's needs and desires – no matter where they are in the world. As a result we are challenging the competition in every segment." 4. My key point, and also why I think China is where the money is at: |

Certainly not evolution, Dukec just trashed 5 generations of design cues carefully incorporated by previous designers, that connection some folks see with the brand. So revolution it is, let the purge begin!
