G20 adaptive shock absorber.
My G20 has a very intermitent knock from the passenger side rear adaptive shock absorber (UK car) - is this a known issue?

Could be a top shock mount.
I had a knocking from my front right shock. Took ages to find the exact cause as it wasnt an easily visible problem. Quote:

My car is at the dealer's where they're trying to pinpoint the source. They stripped out most of the interior in the back of the car, but that didn't cure it, and they have replaced the shocker absorber top mount which didn't cure it either. They are now going to replace the shock absorber which has been ordered. I was just wondering whether anyone else had experienced a knock that was found to be due to a faulty shock absorber, Cheers. |

I have but on a different brand of car. Valve inside the shock failed so the shock was basically solid and did not compress which made it easy to identify.
Has the car thrown any codes? Have they checked carefully for a broken road spring? Sometimes if the brea k is right at the top or bottom it can be hard to see. Does it make the exact same noise in comfort and sport modes (i.e. when the shocks are stiffen up)? Perhaps more likely that one of the bushes in the rear suspension has gone. I'm sure they would have looked but hopefully the battery / HK amp etc is properly secured and there isn't a rogue tool or something else fallen into a cavity somewhere. Lying in the back whilst the car is in motion over bumps is th eold fashioned, but very effective, way of getting a good idea of the area the noise is coming from.
