New G21 M340i owner.

Just thought I’d say Hi.

Picked up a Mineral White M340i touring today.. It’s replacing a Volvo V70 T5 that has 300ish bhp of 5cyl sounding goodness, and a 6cyl BMW is another thing on the petrolhead bucketlist I can tick off.

Only done 50 miles so far in this terrible weather with one brief jaunt into sport+ which was suitably savage!

Couple of questions so far.

On the touring - is the rear wiper supposed to do a full 180deg arc of the rear screen, and start and finish pretty much horizontal? - mine seems to have a bit of “play” in the mechanism and doesn’t park horizontally.

Has anyone got any recommendations for roof bars, (for a pair of Thule bike racks)

And anyone got any recommendations for Dashcams and fitting kits.

Edit for another question.
Do you guys use the std satnav (and pay to keep rtti etc) or just use apple/google once the 3yr sub expires?

Nice! Can only answer the last question as I have the saloon but I use waze all the time via android auto. Traffic routing is so much better than bmw nav and now bit goes full screen it's great.
5pot is good the 6 pot growl is better!

I pay for the connected boost package and you’ll get rtti and the other online services. I know that rtti has its critics but I find it works fine, it’s about £80-90 a year if I recall correctly. Doesn’t include map updates or concierge in that package tho.
Also highly recommend the speed camera app if you haven’t got it already

Should be no play in the wiper - check the glass is properly closed into the tailgate as if you open the glass separately it disengages the wiper mechanism for cleaning.

I like BMW’s nav. The routing is fine. I find that if I use Waze or Google Mals via Android Auto there’s a slight delay in the instructions. I.e. telling me to take a roundabout exit when I’m already taking it.

I also like the way BMW nav integrates with PHEV battery management, adaptive suspension, steering sharpness, etc, selecting what’s best for the road you’re on, and for any manoeuvres you’re about to make.

Speed trap warning is better with Waze though, so sometimes I’ll leave that running on my phone at the same time.

There are many 'how to' posts on this forum for hard wiring a dash cam. It is pretty straight forward and I fitted mine front and rear.

My 2020 touring had a little play in the rear wiper, only 1cm or so but I've noticed the 2023 car has none and I can't even lift it up whilst washing the car. Both did stop pretty horizontally.

I use Thule roofbars. I used the OEM BMW one's on the previous 3 series and there is little difference in use.

And personally I stick with Waze rather than the BMW nav even with an active connected subscription.

With regards to sat nav you will usually find it's down to personal preference. I like the BMW nav and how it integrates with the dash but I'm as yet undecided if I'll renew the Connected Drive Booster package on mine when it runs out later this year as I may just stick to Apple Maps. As a sidenote I don't rate Waze - it has taken me down unopened roads that were still being built in the past and having tried it again recently it had no clue about some road closures that Apple Maps knew about.

Nice car, welcome on board!

I researched the roof bar thing deeply. I went for the Thule Edge Flus Rail (720600) as they're the best in terms of ease of installing accessories. Basically, the rubber along the T section is open at the top, which means you can slide accessories quickly and retain the rubber strip, which is a key component of cutting down wind noise. On the BMW bars you need to cut it down to size, which doesn't work so well when you have multiple accessories.

The Thule's cost me £330 2 years ago, which was considerably more than the factory BMW.

You can also use the Yakima bars, which I also have on other cars. They're a bit less expensive (not in stock when I bought mine) and also have a good solution for the rubber strip part.

Btw, I use the bars for bikes with the Thule ProRide. Would reccomend the 598 as the previous 591 doesn't work well if switching sides.

I have a genuine BMW roof rack for sale if you're interested. Only used it once!

Hopefully the attached picture shows how “high” up it is.
There’s a good few cm of slop in the mechanism.

The rear wiper should park pretty much horizontally - what you've shown in your picture isn't right and I'd take it to your local dealer to sort out!

Yes! I 100% agree, My rear wiper arcs through 180° with no slop. that's not right and needs attention.

Open the glass and move it to the correct position, as I said earlier. Opening the glass makes the arm move freely - it may have been nudged out of position when the glass was open.

Another pic from this morning where you can see the sweep.

as Xenon suggested i opened the glass and "reset" the wiper arm before closing - then triggered the rear wiper.. and this is where it parked.

OK that's definitely not right then. Worth a try.

Humm, the wiper blade arm on your car is different to mine, as mine is 100% straight, no bend in it. Is that just some wierd image bending in the pic you posted?

Yeah I thought that. You can see that the part joining the spindle is at 90 degrees and my arm is also straight. Maybe the wrong arm fitted?

Hmm.

Ill have a look at the pictures of some other cars on AT and see what the rear wiper is like (mine is a '21 MHT car)

Also - can anyone post a picture of the wiper connection on the inside of the glass? - Im wondering if theres maybe a rubber locating "nub" or something missing.

Its only a minor issue at the moment.. Im more disappointed by the relative poor sound of the HK audio!.

Mines a 21 too and the arm is straight. And yes, the sound is utter shite - only negative on the car.
