ps- to reiterate, for anyone that is curious, MPE (which is just a muffler) or a piggyback is not going to fix the situation but a tune will (when the '21 cars DME gets cracked). I know not the answer some want to hear but presently that's where we are at Last edited by chenry; 11-01-2020 at 11:01 PM.. |

Some comments are saying that pops will begin to be heard after the car is broken in... is this verified?

Damn, that really is a significant difference - and *not* in a good way.

Wow that is a crazy difference. I doubt I would have purchased the 2021. One of the big reasons I liked the 2020 was the exhaust (was even better when I add the M Performance Exhaust). Just sounds so...ordinary now

The 2021's sound is more in line with the F3X 340 and 440. A bit disappointing to say the least especially when the 2020 had a much louder system. BMW teased and then took it away.

My car is a March 2019 build I swear I have more pops and bangs than other future builds on the M340. One article said it was because I have the original tune....then they detuned. No real proof but I get crazy pops with stock exhaust.

I'm sure it's as easy as a line of code to restrict the pops and burbles until the car hits a certain mileage - if that's what the intent was.
I just don't know if that's what's happening or if owners of the 2021 models are just stuck with a quieter exhaust.

I would be willing to trade my '20 for a '21 ... not a big fan of loud exhausts.

we had that allready in germany. bmw changed the sound design in september/october 2019. people who got their cars before were lucky at the beginning. ...unless bmw changed those cars, too via update. and they did it without any info before. for example... you went to a dealer for a service and that they did a update. forced by bmw. peoole picked up their cars and the sound was gone. long speech... sound is gone. will not come back after break in! that is the new trend! regulations and restrictions comminh to you, initiated by the european union. |

you can easily get the sound back if you go with MHD or bootmod... or you go to a tuner of your choise to bench unlock your dme and write new settings

I will throw in my 2cents having just test drove then followed through and ordered a 2021... both with MPE. The sound of the 2021 with MPE I found to be just about perfect to my taste for this class of vehicle. The last 3 years I have had a 440 with MPPSK and the pops at any liftoff at any point on the tach just became tiresome and annoying. I loved the louder sound but am happy they did away with the excessive popping especially at lower rpm/low load situations
