Mirror cap removal?

Has anyone managed to remove the mirror caps on their M340? I got some gloss black vinyl to cover the hideous gray but they seem to be a bit more difficult to remove than the F22/30 caps I removed in the past. Not sure I want to go hulk mode unless I know they actually pop off as expected.

Did you try this approach?

I am also going to have to remove mine when I order the carbon fiber ones and interested to hear how it goes.

No I haven't. I'll have to give that a try. On my M235, there was enough of a lip to get a hold of to just pop the caps off. The M340 doesn't seem to have a good place to get a trim tool in to pry. I'll see if the glass removal yields better results tomorrow.

Well it is nowhere near as easy. I was able to pop the glass off, removed some screws and still couldn't get the caps off. Seems to be more work than expected so before I go breaking something, I'll try to find some instructions. Since there are CF caps available, I'd imagine there are some instructions for them somewhere?

Is there installation instructions for the G20 carbon fiber caps that I ordered? It would be helpful for the group here.

I ordered primered mirror caps, had them painted, and then had the dealer remove the cerium gray caps and install the painted ones. They said they tried but were unable to remove the original mirror caps without breaking some of the tabs off.

That's kinda crazy that they couldn't remove the stock ones without breaking tabs. I wanna replace the stock ones with cf but if that's the case it may not be worth it if I can't put the stock ones back on when I have to return the lease.

I can't say that's a surprise given what I found yesterday. I would think they'd have some instructions on how to do it though. I'm not afraid of trying to do things myself, but this was some complicated BS honestly.

I had the glass off, gloss black surround off, about 6 screws out and still couldn't even remotely get it off without feeling like I was going to break something so I aborted and put it back together. If I had to guess, I'd say the whole mirror may need to come off if you don't want to break something.

I'm also interested I knowing how best to do this because the first thing I want to when my M340 arrives is swap out the mirror caps.

Hello!

Unfortunately, BMW has not yet provided us with a PDF Installation guide on removing and adding the new CF Mirror Caps.

Just had mirror glass off there are about 4 different wired connections on the back. There are two tabs on the top circled in red. I popped those but still couldn't get the mirror cap off. My CF ones are coming Thursday...I am going to look at the tabs on those and see how they click in and hopefully that will help determine how to get them off.

Any luck figuring it out?

I got it off without taking the mirror by tilting mirror down and the. Popping top two clips and prying it off. Worked well without breaking any clips and saved risking cracking the mirror. Unfortunately, one of the mirrors wasn't a fantastic fit so going to try and get it replaced. Otherwise they are fantastic.

Did anyone go the route of vinyl wrapping the mirror caps without popping them out?

The indicator area makes me think the cap will have to get taken off to do it, but I hope I am wrong.

Quick and unrelated question.
Did you apply transparent protective film on your mirror cap housings?
I was wondering if bmw applied it after manufacturing
