18s vs 19s on m440i convertible

considering getting a m440i convertible and contemplating between the 18s and the 19s. obviously the 19s look better but sick of potholes....

if not mistaken, according to tire rack:

18s are 225/45/18
19s are 225/40/19

seems like staggered wheels are:

18s are F:225/45/18 R:255/40/18
19s are F:225/40/19 R:255/35/19

two questions:
1) do they even have staggered 18s? i think there is only one style for the 18s, no? the 848m.
2) how durable or not durable are the 19s for those who have it?

thanks in advance!

I have the 19's with Michelin 4s tires in Baltimore (aka pothole city) and find the ride great.....better than the 2020 m340i that I traded and much better than the M2 before that....

Yes, staggered 18” 848M wheels with staggered performance, summer tires are available. Code 1R4. Here’s the ordering/pricing guide:

18s will probably ride better but I think the newer cars do a better job with potholes on 19s.

I have 19” Pirelli P7 runflats on my 2021 M340i, and they do not handle potholes well. It might just be the Pirellis, but I have had three tires replaced because of sidewall blowouts, and one for a sidewall bulge. I now cringe whenever I accidently hit a pothole. However, the BMW tire and wheel insurance purchase
has definitely paid off.

Yup, bent a front rim on my m340i a year into ownership but not yet after 2 years with the M440i...had to replace a rear tire with a nail driving back to Maryland from performance center delivery...

Get the 19's and the Adaptive M Suspension and you can have it all- great looks, don't feel the potholes. Mine rides great, you'll love it.

I think the 19s on the GC have a bit more rubber on them, though. 245/40/19 and 255/40/19.

My last car, which also had an adaptive suspension, had 235/40/19 all around and it rode pretty great, provided the roads in my city are disastrous.

Ordering and pricing guides for the upcoming model year typically get posted in the May to July timeframe.

I have 19s on my M440i and it is a rougher ride on poor quality roads, but I plan on getting larger tires when my factory set wear out.

Can't vary tire size as it will upset suspension geometry...

Sure you can. Folks do it all the time. Adding a little bit of additional aspect ratio isn’t going to hurt anything as long as you keep the diameters equal all around.

I read his post as keeping 19 inch wheels and getting "taller" tires.....that's a no no...

And I totally disagree. People do it all the time. Going to a slightly taller sidewall isn’t going to make a hill of beans of difference in how the suspension performs.

Yeas I had a loaner with 19-inch rims + Pirelli P7 A/S RSC, and going over even small potholes was quite unpleasant.

If u have bad road conditions in your area, then it may be prudent to go with 18-inch rims.
