Are Driving Assistance and Driving Assistance Professional useful?

I’m about to finalize my order and was wondering if anyone finds these options useful. The latter is $2K.

For me it was a no brainer to order with Driving Assistance Pro. I couldn’t imagine buying a luxury car that has standard cruise control without the ability to adjust to the car in front of you. Not to mention the lane keep assist is very useful on long, highway trips.

I find the lane keeping a good thing, providing you use your signal. It can be a bit intrusive if you don't.

In case you haven't seen the Assisted Driving View on G20 https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1641792

The driving assistant system on G20 definitely has the potential to catch up with Tesla's Autopilot (not the full autonomous driving) if bmw provides future software updates.

Most people seem to think it's a must have, I would never use it so I didnt order it. I also have a Tesla Model S and I never use the autonomous driving features, so it's just not my thing. But most insist on it.

I like it overall , my only concern is , would it prevent an emergency lane change to avoid an accident?

We have it on our X7, and it fights you if you don't signal first, so who knows... I eventually disabled it, it's super annoying.

Curious if anyone has actually tested this.

From my normal usage (before disabling it), it generally just corrected me back into my lane if I was slowly "drifting" out of my current lane. I would be surprised if the system could respond quickly enough if the wheel was jerked to the right or left to steer out of your current lane in an emergency situation, but perhaps someone else can comment.

I have not found the need to deactivate it yet. It has made more diligent at using my blinker. My wife deactivated hers on her Volvo XC60, she hated it

I dont have my g20 to confirm, but i can override all the assistant features on my F06. It would be a huge liability from manufacturers if they didn't do that.

I did not opt for this when ordering mine. It is the ultimate driving machine, not the ultimate riding machine. I would rather stay engaged and in charge of the wheel.

a. with these systems you can easily overpower the wheel with minimal strength
b. part of the driver assist pro is evasion aid where the car actually monitors for an emergency in front of you and will help you avoid it

We have had (my wife's) Tesla Model 3 for almost a year and a half. In the last 6 months or so, it has been getting smarter. I used to have to disconnect it about every 5 mins. Now I may go 20 minutes. I love it. I do not expect the 340M to be as smart as the 3, but it was one of the deciding features.

I cross shopped a couple of other cars & the Genesis G70. I thought the V6 G70 was 'almost' as good as the G20 340, and it has an almost $10K price advantage. In the end, I opted for my 4th BMW. The (perceived) better "autopilot" was one of the major factors.

Very useful. I’ve recently did two long highway trips and let the car do most of the driving. It’s really brilliant.

The sensitivity of the lane thingy can be adjusted but anyone not being able to ‘overcome’ it wouldn’t have the strength to open the door.

I ordered ours with driver assist pack for blind spot monitoring but that's the only "assist" that I want on this car. I turned off the lane keep assist. It just vibrates when I weave in and out of traffic.

Didn't order it on my m340, but I really wish I spent the extra money. Seems like it's worth it when driving in traffic and on long trips.

Ordered the car with both driver assistance and the driver assistance pro packages. Can't wait for this thing to handle my daily bumper to bumper traffic

I have it on my car, but I haven't been able to really test it much so far. This video convinced me it was a must have though ... For people saying they want to drive and don't want the car driving for them, do you ever sit in bumper to bumper traffic for long periods of time? That isn't driving to me, that is just irritating, so for the car to take away part of that and help you is huge for me.

He goes for long periods of time not touching the steering wheel and letting the car drive for him in traffic. Pretty impressive to me!

Agreed, no car is ultimate driving machine in traffic.
