Dash dimming
I'm having an issue where at times my main dashboard gets darker than I would like. I like my dashe to be nice and bright, especially during the day.
I've turned the knurled knob by the lights control panel but it had no effect. Is the dash supposed to be like a phone whereby it reacts to ambient lighting? If so, where is this controlled from? |

Just wondering if you have you had aftermarket window tint applied? There is a light sensor to the left of the fuel guage that auto adjusts the brightness..and it seems not to like some window tinting. You can test it and see if the display brightness changes if you wind the drivers window down.

Thanks for the help. No aftermarket tints for me! I do have the factory ones at the rear though and also the pano roof which mostly I travel with the blind open. Interesting to learn where the light sensor is located.
Need to delve into that day/night settings as not clear what it allows for. |

It's a known issure, the light sensor is very sensitive and can dim the dashboard on a cloudy day. Especially apparent when you have aftermarket tint on windows, but not only.
There is an extensive topic on the subject: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ight=ir+sensor One of the users on this forum even came up with a smart ir emitting device to trick the sensor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XtaMrTqBJM&t=5s |

If it gets worse I might see about getting a dealer to adjust the sensitivity. |
