In Cybersecurity, humans are usually (always) the flaw in the system. No one is sitting in some server farm trying to brute force RSA. (LOL Kaspersky) We are just waiting for someone to mess up or for an exploit to be found. The bigger problem I see is how BMW will react once it is defeated. (if it ever is), what's to stop BMW from remotely pushing a validated flash and relocking your DME once your checksum reports an anomaly? Where is the SIM Card located and what happens if you remove it?

I feel once the shine wears on the M3/M4, like magic, the DME will unlock. It makes sense that they do this as why spend 20-25 grand more for an M3/M4 when the 340/440 does all if not more with minimal mods and an OBD tune.

Look at the C8s. People have been trying to crack those for 2 years without any luck. And that group seems more motivated so who knows how long it will take for our G20s.

Dont lose faith... the aftermarket makes way too much money selling tunes to not crack the DME to be able to receive a tune.
Its just a matter of time. Be optimistic. I would bet it happens before this year is over. |

If it could, we have some real problems past tuning cars to deal with. I know those exploitable DMEs of the early M340 can pull high 10s with $5000 or less in mods. That is insane. INSANE. I hope they figure it out soon as I don't think the JB4 or the AC Schnitzer inlines are going to get us there. |

Genuine question, can't they just swap out the DME with an older one, and code it to your VIN? I'm sure if they are unlocked then they can also solve the FSC issues that would naturally crop up.

I thought about this, and I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that it won't work that way. If I find the reply/post about this I'll post it back here. I don't think it was an M340i though, it was one of the A91 Supras I read it awhile back.
