I'm pretty certain it's open being I disconnected the plug while it was fully opened. I don't see how it would close if it's disconnected. Honestly I'm thinking about plugging it back in. It drones too much when in comfort mode. If I wanna hear it I'll just put it in sport plus. Again this is coming from a 23 m340i. Maybe it's different for other models.

For those unfamiliar, this is a well documented mod from the Forum that applies to most modern BMWs particularly any F or G series with active valves.

The stock BMW exhaust tuning actually never opens the valve to 100%, even under full load or acceleration conditions, so this mod has a range of benefits such as increased volume, deeper tone and more flow, in all driving modes.

The mod facilitates the BMW exhaust valve to remain 100% open and give the exhaust more flow and more sound for zero cost with this modification guide.

Zoom to the end to hear some "after" mod sound clips (the car has a stock exhaust with high flow catalytic converter down pipes)

I’m planning to do this now that I finally have the car. Anything negative to report after the last couple months with the mod? I’m curious what you used with the steel wire. I imagine it should be stainless that should be used. Any thoughts on where to source this?

It’s a lot easier to open the valve putting car in sport mode and then unplugging the fuse.

It's well documented in the forum that this didn't work the valve to 100% unfortunately

I believe you are correct.... on my 2020 G20 M340i, I took the fuse out when the Valve was fully open, it has been FULLY open like that for at least 8mths now, with no issues.

I believe the confusion is caused by that "M Division" only in the original post mention that it relates to the behavior of the G87 M2, not G2x.

The car knows that the valve is disconnected and it can lead to CEL for the GPF.
What do you mean by that? How can the GPF have problems because the valve is always open?
I have an EU car and want to do this mod, but I saw a few posts talking about it being bad for the GPF but nobody explaining why or how.

Because the car doesn´t know the current position of the exhaust valve and doesn´t start certain processes.
A GPF also needs to be regenerated when the driving profile has many short drives without high temperatures.
When removing the fuse or plug from the exhaust valve, this will be suppressed and can result in GPF errors.
The error is "1A2810 - Gasoline particulate filter: Efficiency below limit value" and can activate the CEL...

When using a controller to always open the exhaust valve, the cars knows the position of the valve and it doesn´t suppress the regeneration process.
