A ZF tranny will never be as fun or engaging as their DCT.

Sigh.

“Here we need a very controlled body, there is still room for improvements here, the car is still very pressure heavy.”

What is he really saying here? That the car is rolling to much and shifting too much weight to the outside? Or is it front axle pressure he refer to?

OK... grille controversy aside:

The most interesting thing in that video to me was when they hit the curb and made mention how fascinating it was that it was smooth over the bumps.

IF that is the case this is a major improvement over F80 chassis dynamics... The F80 takes bumps like that anything but smoothly.

Still won't buy one because of the dumb grill but glad to hear the dynamics are moving the right direction.

No the G20 nose wouldn't fit on the G80 as the G80 is wider like the G82, same with the F80 a F30 nose wouldn't fit hence they share the same front end.

Also the e90 M3 got the coupe front end as well not the stock saloons front end.

If you forget about M3 vs M4 and think saloon vs coupe they have shared the same front end since 2007 an M4 is just an M3 coupe by another name.

Why?

We were told by the designers he whole reason the 4 has that fugly grille is to differentiate it from the 3 and make it (ugh) 'more dynamic'. They want it to look different to the 3, and the 3 is for more conservative buyers. Putting the new M4 face on it contradicts that comment...?
The grill denotes performance both in form and function. Form is mainly to differentiate from the standard grill and function in that it allows for greater airflow for cooling, which is very important for a performance car.

The 3 series is the least sporty car so it gets the standard grill.

The 4 series is slightly sportier so it gets the bigger grill to differentiate it from the 3 series.

The M3 is even more sporty than the 4 series, so why wouldn't it get the bigger grill?

The M4 gets the bigger grill because it's both an M car and a 4 series.

That video just made me dislike the M3 even more, also, old mules, you can tell by the unfinished fenders and rear lights which are covered.

"We've put a lot of effort into eliminating any disturbances from the steering system…. It's a big task but once achieved It'll make this vehicle very easy to drive."

About 2 months until we officially know what it'll look like... I'm more interested in performance but can't wait.

Considering the saloon starts production first, it would make logical sense the coupe follows the sedan design attributes. Not the other way.

Is the G22 really that much wider than the G20? Probably not enough for that to be the reasoning.

Not like the M version has ever shared its non-M brethren's bumpers.

Like I've said before, the M3 is the "M version" of the 3 series. It's shouldn't be taking it's design cues from the 4-series. Before it was no big deal. Now, it's a pretty big deal with the design language. Now if I want an M3, I have to buy an M4 with 2 extra doors.

At 01:59: "We put a lot of effort into eliminating disturbance from the steering system such as road force generated by friction"

Did they just brag about eliminating steering feedback?!

Cool video. BMW does so much testing at the Ring, it helps explain the great dynamics of M cars.

It's sad but perhaps inevitable they are moving the rear brake to a single piston sliding caliper. I'm not surprised as the Merc GT-R has this same setup, but it's a downgrade vs the F8X brakes.
Won't be a big issue for me as my Ms exist for the track and it'll get a full BBK before its first track day.

Also nice to have confirmation an auto+RWD option is coming. It would have sucked if it were only 6MT+RWD vs Auto+AWD. Still, the track worthiness of the ZF is TBD.

Questions I have open on the G8X generation:
-How much will the RWD+Auto weigh?
-Does the Auto hold up to serious tracking with slicks?
-How much will the RWD+6MT weigh?
-How many gs does the oiling system take? 1.4g like the E9X or 1.3g like the F8X?
-Have they fixed the fuel starvation issue they already fixed in the E9X, then broke for the F8X gen?
-As the chassis is designed for AWD, what tire/wheel widths does it accomodate?
-Will the CSL/GTS get a proper DCT instead of the ZF?

Things I don't care about in the G8X:
-Front end aesthetics
-The sound. It's a turbo car and they all sound like crap. I'm not going to debate whether it's a 2/10 or a 3/10. It's crap.

Still can't wrap my head on them saying the Manuel car will get the weaker engine "" and the auto will get the better one. And of course the bugs bunny front of the car

Yeah, because it only needs the mould for the front bumper. We are talking about immense cross-divisional efforts for BMW to design, develop, qualify and ultimately manufacture such a bumper. And this for a vehicle which is sold significantly less than a normal 3/4 series BMW. The reason they use different bumpers for the X5m and X6m is probably due to the fact that these models are less cost-sensitive and are offered at a much higher price.

Besides the functional aspects of a bumper, I tend to look at things from a cost perspective.

I'm not the only one that caught that detail. Certainly looks like the older test mules as compared to the recent leaks and video clips of this sporting the same fascia as the G82 M4

Seriously, what is going on at BMW, this is just sad and not the company I grew up with and loved owning, its a f****** M3, not a base 330i, we don't want easy to drive we want driver engagement and feedback!!!!
So disappointing. Now the cat is out of the bag, nobody can deny that BMW has been purposely injecting anesthesia in their cars. They admitted it years ago, but it's shocking to hear the M division say it.
