Been in both and mates owned both. No discernible difference. The small extra hp that helps between cogs is very much offset by the best part of carrying the equivalent to a small adult in extra weight. I believe yes there is a marginal economic improvement.
In short then, no wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. |

I've got the MHT version. no difference between them really as far as I can tell
bigger touchscreens on the MHT model, but drive 8.0 isn't great, the previous version was more user friendly. which I guess is why drive 8.5 is now coming out on some vehicles the battery seems to work nicely if I'm on a motorway cruise. 40mpg is very likely if you stick to the speed limits over a 40 or 50 mile run. if you are "pushing on" and on small roads, then mpg is anywhere between 20 and 30 and the battery doesn't seem to make any difference |

MHT helps with things like a smoother stop start experience with the engine and a bit better mpg but as others have said you can live without it. If it gives you more scope to get into an m340 do it!

Couple from a recent trip.... non-MHT touring 40i. First one was with a decent average speed. I suspect if at UK speed limit then I might have added a few more MPG, but an av of 79mph and 40mpg is good enough for me. The other was a shorter trip not on motorways, but av speed hammered really by sitting at traffic lights for over 5 mins, otherwise had been pushing on a wee bit.

In the now almost three years I've owned an M440i with the B58 MHT engine version I've always found that the best consumption figures I get are in 'Comfort' setting and never in 'Eco Pro'.
The 8-speed auto box often seems either too eager or too slow to change, on inclines as a perfect example, and those, albeit very short, delays in my experience have a significant impact on the fuel consumption figure. I find it far easier to use 'acceleration sense' which produces a better consumption figure. I discussed this very question with a long time acquaintance at my local dealership just yesterday and his experience was identical to mine, bearing in mind with him being a manager there he regularly uses a vast range of BMWs from their current range on a day to day basis. It may be worth giving it a try using 'comfort' setting as opposed to 'eco pro' on some of your regular journeys and see how the consumption figures compare? |

I drive a diesel (M340d) so my experience probably not comparable, but I have coded adaptive as my default driving mode and my consumptionn is very acceptable. 43mpg around town, late 50's on a run.

I'll be honest most of the time I find the car so good without changing the default driving mode, or maybe I'm just a lazy sod in my old age! But I rarely ever use any other drive mode, I shall however, give the adaptive mode a try and see what results I get (if I can remember to change it that is! )

Interestingly my 320i petrol did a long run and return journey.......with the gearbox in sport but sensible driving, sport returned a marginally better figure.
