Considering M340, thoughts as owners?
I currently drive a 2018 340i M-Sport with ZHP, 6mt, and MPPSK. Its been a great car, but my lease expired in September. I had a deposit on an M240 but that car has been stuck in port since 11/9 with no sign of shipping. I was looking at a Macan S and an M3 (wildly different) but the M3 sold and they want ~$1k/mo for the Macan.
The broker I was working with on the M3 offered a 22 M340 in BSM over TR, pretty loaded w/an MSRP of a bit over $63k. They are offering 2% below MSRP, which while sad, is pretty good in this market. I'm seriously considering this car since I'm tired of looking, it should be nice and maybe I can get out early when the market stabilizes and I can order an M2 or M3 at MSRP (or less) w/a 6MT. What I'd like to know is what you think about your G20's overall? How is acceleration and braking? Are they fun in the twisties? How do you like the "new" interior/iDrive/Live Cockpit Pro? Any regrets or issues? Are these 386hp + electric assist? How is the MPG, in m fixed driving I average 27-28 in my F30. I really like the "traditional grilles" of the 3 vs the 4 series.

I have an M340ix, a 435ix, and an Xm40i (n55). The g chassis cars are nothing like the f chassis cars. The steering is worlds better. The suspension is great with the adaptive package; pretty bad without it IMO. Brakes are much better. The b58 is worlds better than the N55. It feels almost as fast as my BM3 e30 435.
I love my m340 and have only owned it for about 2 weeks.

I love my M340i. BMW pretty much knocked it out of the park with this car, except for the OEM exhaust. Mod that the moment you buy it.
It performs amazingly for what it is, and it’s a practical sedan. While my Porsche is in the garage for winter, I miss it much less being able to drive this car |

I've owned an F30 M-Sport and agree with Insane435 that both the steering and ride of the G20 is much improved over the F30. As far as acceleration and braking, same thing, the G20 is much quicker, especially on the top end when passing on the highway. And the brakes have great stopping power. Lastly, I use my M340 as a daily driver and I am averaging a solid 30mpg on my commute which is a mix of 75% highway and 25% city driving.

I came from a F30 340i zhp 6mt with MPE and I instantly fell for the new G20. I would also recommend the Mperf exhaust on this as well.
You won't be disappointed if you select the M340.

Current M340i RWD owner with an order out for an M440i Gran Coupe. Here's my thoughts.
1. M340i is an EXCELLENT car with amazing dynamics and an incredible motor. 2. I nearly talked myself into an M3 Competition, but in the end, I couldn't justify the current asking price, so I "settled" for an M440i GC w/ xDrive. (not really settling, as an M440i GC xDrive with performance tires will blitz an M340i RWD with all-seasons.) 3. The market at the moment is brutal, but for those of us in a lease, it's an absolutely prime market for trading up. 4. The only reason I went with the M440i GC is because I want something more and something that is mine, fully customized. Dealers want our cars... badly. Because of this, I was able to ink a deal where I was able to trade in my $60k car (lease) for a $68K car purchase. $10k down, and I'm only paying $100 more per month than my lease. If the market were normal, this sort of deal on a car with 2+ years left on the lease, would be unthinkable. In a normal market, the dealer would have raked me over the coals. But this isn't a normal market, and I took advantage of it. The M340i is an excellent car, but if you get it, I would recommend getting the Adaptive Suspension. The normal M-sport suspension is fine, but it's a bit too firm for my taste. The Adaptive Suspension fixes this. Last edited by madpistol; 01-19-2022 at 08:51 PM.. |

As someone who's had one since summer of 2019, after almost 3 years of ownership it's been great. No regrets thus far and I will most likely buy out at the end of my lease or get another via custom order since mine was bought off a dealer lot.
PS. madpsitol what do you mean by blitz? GC is not as sharp in handling as the M340i, it's heavier. Tires are a non factor since you can swap them out. That's what I did, swapped for Michelin's PS4S's.

M440i GC is xDrive. The M440i will be much faster from a dig. Otherwise, yes you are correct. I'm ok with giving up a little sharpness. I actually want a car that's a bit more comfortable anyway. |

I had the same car and set up as you before getting my M340. I've never regretted the choice.

I had an F30 340i M Sport ZTR fully loaded. I've driven an M340i a few times on the track. Unfortunately I never tracked my F30 despite having the track package, but I can say that the M340i absolutely is a blast and is an improvement over the F30 in almost every single way except the center console. I don't like the layout of the the center console in the middle at all, but that's such a small gripe, everything else more than makes up for it.
I think you will be very happy with an M340i.... however if you are flirting with an M car, I think you might give this more thought. The G8X M3/4 is a totally different car than a G20 M340i. Even compared to an F8X M3/4, the M340i doesn't really compare unless you are just comparing 0-60 times and freeway pulls. Since the G8X is an improvement in many ways over the F8X, so I can imagine the distinction between the G2X and G8X to be even more noticeable. Having said that, it's all about opportunity. It is difficult to find the opportunity to drive at a level that truly reveals the strengths of the G8X. It absolutely loves to live on the edge of control at very high speeds, and you will have to break many traffic laws to experience it. At street legal speeds, the M340i is more accessible. It's has lots of power, but it's not always encouraging you to drive like a maniac. The M3/4 on the other hand, is begging to be hooned. It's almost boring at street speeds, you just want to floor it more often than not. It was true in the F8X, and my expectations with the G8X are the same. The reviews pretty much confirm it. If you are tracking, get the G8X definitely. If you aren't tracking, but simply like the idea that you could if you wanted, then get the G8X. You just have to ask yourself if the $20-$30k premium is worth it. Depending on your relationship with your CA, you can get a G8X M3/4 allocation right now for MSRP with a slight increase in financing (2% apr, or 2% equivalent MF). If you are paying cash, there is a $2k markup. Honestly considering well quipped M3/4's are close to $100k, that's not a bad markup. Financing was at 0.9% back in December, and I think 1.9 - 2.9% this month. Either way, it's a decent rate. Or you could wait for the M4 CSL.

Thought I'd chime in here and reiterate what everyone else has said. The M340ix is a great balance of performance, luxury, comfort and daily driveability.
The engine is powerful and responsive, the transmission is smooth and with the M Adaptive Suspension (a must have option) the car is great through the curves and turns on these LA/OC streets and freeways. I went with the Shadowline package on Dravit Grey and the car looks sharp parked amongst the masses. The doors close like a bank vault and it is quiet inside, the way a luxury car is supposed to be. BMW really did it right with the G20 M340i and M340ix.

M340i is a better, improved car in EVERY SINGLE WAY (minus the subjective categories) It fixed every complaints i had with F3X. I get similar MPG. The only issue it retained is the brake dust, it is still bad |

Ive had the car for about 14 months and already have 21k miles. I can't help but want to drive. It's comfortable, fast, clean. I'm going to buy out the lease for the first time ever so that should tell you something

What if the LCI or the next Gen M340i is even better? There is always something newer and better that is why we lease.

One of the biggest improvement IMO is the headlight. While the M340i LED is still far from being one of the best on the road, but it is 10x better than the reflector LED i had in my F30 LCI. I even had the adaptive $1500 upgrade LED, and it was still shit. Could not see anything over 5 feet away But it was super bright and white within those 5 feet tho...
