[QUOTE=greekcs;27010451]did they just eliminate the music partition on the hard drive?[/QUOT
I was told no one used or asked for it anymore so they eliminatied the hard drive. I don't believe that. I know there are enough of us old people who drive these things that having somewhere to store music can't be that difficult to provide, and I wonder if all the other 5, 6, and 7 series have it eliminated as well. Does anyone know?

I don't understand what's so hard about buying either an external HD or a high capacity USB stick and plugging it into one of the many USB ports?
That also allows you to upgrade capacity in 5 years or as required incredibly easily. A previous car I owned had a hard drive that held 128MB (yes megabytes). If it was an external drive connected by USB it could have easily been upgraded, but because it was built in there was no ability to add more space and it was pretty much redundant. |

It worked perfectly in my 2020 M340i, but it will be lost in the next one, unless BMW provide the way to extract them as usable files. |

Well that sucks.
I use it on my 2020. Does reading from a USB have any issues? Does it scale well? Can it index gigabytes of audio for voice search? Cover art? |

For audio I only use MP3. (The UM says it can play MP3, MP4, M4A, M4B, AAC, WMA, FLAC). Don't know the maximum bit rate.
Video plays (MP4) which according to file properties use 2Mbps and a total file size of 1.5GByte. The UM is a bit cryptic what it means with "maximum 128GB". Perhaps that is maximum drive size? I use a 64GB stick formatted in NTFS. The UM is however clear about the information that can be stored in the system: 16000 titles per drive and 40000 in total. |

This. It reads the flash drive fine, but the folders are gone. It's just one giant unmanaged list of hundreds of songs. I traded in a 2018 Charger that was able to read these folders just fine. Very annoying.

Titles: You get all music from the drive in one list, disregarding the folder structure. This is the way to play it all (shuffled or not). Folders: You get a list of titles from the folder you opened. At least this works in my 2021 Cockpit Pro. I use folder names including spaces and drives formatted in NTFS. Playlist: If you put an "m3u" (simple text file "nnn.m3u" will do) on the drive (I have it at the root level), with relative paths to the files, the menu choice "Playlists" will be shown under "Search". |
