Love it, really nice blend of the old and new.

I played with a Tesla yesterday and it felt like I was operating an iPad, not a car.

I'm all for digital dash, I just hope it's high rez enough that the analog dials don't show aliasing.

I hope it's got a 90hz or 120hz refresh rate. I'm used to 120hz+ displays now so 60hz looks bad.

Since they understandably skipped OLEDs due to cost I hope they didn't cheap out on the LCD panel.

Edit: It looks like certain indicators like the headlamp icon on the left are traditional bulbs outside of the display panel.

Please excuse my horrible diagram below

See where the blue arrow pointed, it looks like it's the vertical line of where the LCD panel ends. I've marked the rectangle of where the LCD panel is with green lines.

The headlamp display circled in red on the left appears to be a regular bulb.

Oh I see what you mean, it looks like it’s actually on the perspex as it goes over the over the edge of where the inside of the cluster finishes!

I just watched the video again and there's air bubbles underneath so the edge where it crosses is just fortunately peel-off protective plastic film that he hadn't removed yet

Otherwise it would look really tacky lol.

Liar, liar, pants on fire.

You can see it here https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1526448 at 1:19 on the video.

May be going against what we are used to in a BMW, but there is some symmetry to the way it works. Brain will soon get used to it.

Agree. Looks odd at first but you'll get used to it.

Unlike the MT brigade of course.

Those with automatic don't need it. And those with manual tracking the car use other senses than looking at the rev meter. That's my experience at least. But anyway, unnecessary change I think.

Looks cool - hope this can be retrofitted for an F30 eventually.

P.S. Change isn't always for the worst...

Deal breaker for me if it looks that way and is not optional.

Anyway, i was already out with no manual transmissions.

Sad day really.

Love this design but there are a couple things that make or break digital clusters for me including a good refresh rate for smooth movement of the "dials" and a decent enough resolution.

Hopefully there is a lot of customization as I find that the major benefit of going digital. I'd like to see an option to show traditional gauges and having the whole thing be a map similar to the Audi Virtual Cockpit.

I know the US won't get a manual, but has this been confirmed for Canada as well?

It's not so much as the US not getting a manual. BMW is not making any 330 or M340 with manual.

Only the 320 and below will offer manual and the 320 and below are not in the US product plans right now

I think this gauge cluster looks cheesy. Probably in the minority but hopefully in real life they will be higher quality looking.

I wouldn't expect much. At the end of the day it's just going to be a cheapo LCD panel with bad contrast slapped inside the dashboard.

If they wanted to really be luxurious they would've used some OLED panels.
