I have the same issue... Taking a few months to find the right position. A few cars ago I decided to measure the distances from backrest to pedals, to the steering wheel and all the seat angles.. Down to mm and fractions of a degree!

It may sound a little over the top, but now I find if I set the seat to these precise settings in any new car I am comfortable.

Did the same in my G20 330e and no issues

Man I really do not know what to do about this seat situation

4k miles and nothing has improved for me. The seat is still so uncomfortable that it almost feels like the lumbar support is not working properly and retracting all the way.... but I can feel that it is.

It really, really is soiling my fun with this car. I dont know what to do.

Same seats used in g01/g02. Not my favorite and could benefit from an improvement in comfort. In my opinion, biggest let down of g01/g02/g20. Bmw, Please benchmark Audi b9 A4 sline seats, one of the best.

I wonder if people's complaints with their car seats are due in part to bad posture?

Hmmmm so discomfort happens
when you have good body alignment and a seat forces u into a not-so-good posture;
Or
You had a not-so-good posture and the seat Change is moving you into a better one

Wonder which one

I collected my car two days ago. It was a 90 mile trip back from the dealer and my back was aching within the first 10 miles. I was getting a bit worried that I may have made a mistake but I did some fine tuning on the seat position, particularly on the angle of the base and that seems to have done the trick.

I’ve been out driving every chance I get and no more aches.

I have had my m340i for 5 days now. I’ve come from an m235i and f30 340 and found the seats in those cars supremely comfortable. The G20 is truly aweful. I have back pain in the car that gets worse when I get out. Im in pain 24/7. The seats aren’t great but the main problem seems to be that they have moved the seat further into the centre of the car marking the pedals even more offset than they are in previous gens and the seat also seems to be angled to the right of straight ahead. So when I sit square in the seat my hips and legs are about 20 degrees ish off the straight ahead AND my legs are push to the right by the offset. So while the seat may soften, I am not sure how to fix the fact my torso and lower half are twisted in opposite directions. Anyone else find this??

This one is AMAZING. I've seen a lot of these which try and use diagrams and maths, but that instructor broke it down super easy. Definitely want to try that method of adjusting mirrors!!

I usually get sore on my left upper back/shoulder as I mostly use the left hand to steer. Took about a month for it to go away but it also coincided with my return to the gym

Don't believe it's as much as 20 degrees. But there is definitely an angle. Still remember the complaints about this when M2 came out. Guess the closer to the front you sit the bigger the angle.
This honestly feels like some sort of defect. Had bunch of cars in my lifetime and never experienced this before.

Hi Alex, I see you’re from Canada. Is your car left hand drive? Are the pedals/seat still of set? I was under the impression the main problem was with the right hand drive cars (which mine is)?

I had this issue with my previous M2 which ultimately caused a lot of pain in my left shoulder/neck area. I don't have this issue with the seats/driving position in the M340i although the seat back has this stitching/tubing which kinda digs into my back.

Hi Oksana,

Yes, the car is left hand. I do feel that my body is slightly tilted towards the door. My left side has better contact with the backrest compared to the right. It is not extremely noticeable but there some tilt for sure.

I've had the e46, e90, e92, f30, f80 and now G20 and the G20 seats are by far the most comfortable ones I've been in.
Longest drive I have done was about 280 miles in one day...absolutely no issues.

That’s interesting. Is your car left or right hand drive? Have you had it from new? Or were the seats ‘broken in‘ when you got it? Which seats do you have?

I’ve got a G20 on order at the moment, as a Volvo XC60 driver currently, one of things I was keen to test was the seats. I had a demo m sport for a few days with the vernasca seats, and It felt pretty good, not as nice as the Volvo but still nice non the less.

I’m struggling to understand what’s going on here. I must admit I didn’t notice a issue with the seat on my test drive yet my car is a real problem. I haven’t driven it today but wondered if it had surround view so popped outside and sat in the passenger seat. I ended up spending half and hour trawling through the idrive menu, perfectly comfortably. I then got into the drivers seat and immediately my legs were pushed to the right by the centre console and back was throbbing in under 5 minutes. I’m at a loss. I had about 3 hour drive in the test drive car and thought it was quite comfortable. Never once noticed the seat position problem I have with mine.

I got my new M340i in July and it gave me really bad leg and back pain from 15 mins after driving out of the showroom.

I considering get rid of it as it was so bad. However 3 months on and I find that having adjusted the seats I have finally found a comfortable position.

The leather does soften up and I only have the standard leather, but for me the biggest thing was to adjust the seats and then leave them for a couple of days to see if it is comfortable, dont keep adjusting it every 5 mins as I was doing.

the other thing that worked for me was I got in my wife's Audi, where the seat is very comfortable and looked at how it was set up, then set the BMW seat up the same way - ie tilt, height etc etc.

stick with it (although the seats are nowhere near as comfortable as the Audi S5 I just sold!)

I don't think there is a material difference in feel between Dakota and Sensatec. Now if BMW offered Nappa or Merino, that would be different.

We drive on the right in Texas and we all get the same seats on the M340i I believe.
I got it new and have now 1100 Miles on it, the seats are fine for me

I have never had issue finding decent confort in bmw cars, but sometimes it takes me time to get it just right. I have set a rental car wrong once and drove it for several weeks causing me lower back pain. In that case I used a foam roller to resolve it. Now back on my bmw and it has been fine. I don't doubt that even these cars can have issues with unique bodies. I wonder if there are places that you can get your seat professionally configured for best result? Or maybe there are some youtube videos on techniques
