LSU names Joe Burrow as starting QB. Graduate transfer from OSU where he was a backup. Didn’t participate in spring practice so wondering whether he is that good to step in an earn starting job, or if LSU’s QB situation is that dire.

Less than a week until kickoff!

That dire! Miles Brennan has potential but he is a true sophomore so they went with the age/maturity of Burrow. But he'll be on a short leash, start making poor decisions and they'll pull him...

How is the LSU OL? Miami DL lost some good players but still strong.

Another question mark. Had one starter suspended indefinitely. The younger players are talented but inexperienced. My money is on Miami in this game!

In fact LSU has the #3 toughest schedule this year, going to be a long year! Could be the downfall of Coach Orgeron...

Saw where Southern Cal has named a true freshman their starting QB. First frosh to start as signal caller since Matt Barkley in 2009, and only the third to ever start a game for the Trojans.

It can work and there have been some very successful true freshmen QBs, but tough for most freshman to learn and be able to execute on a big playbook while adapting to the accelerated pace of play. Everyone wants to play right away. Some will make it big, some will transfer and many will flop.

He should be a senior in high school right now. He basically took all his senior classes in one semester and reclassified for 2018 recruiting class. Now he gets to be USC starting QB at 18 years old...crazy. He passed Barkley’s Mater Dei passing records in 3 years. Threw for 4,900 yards and 67 TD’s in his Sophomore season.

According to Coach O, Burrow separated himself due to his consistency. Interestingly, O said that not attending spring practice didn't hurt Burrow as the new offense was installed in the fall? Was the OC not hired until summer or do they not teach players the offense until fall?

OC was hired back in January... Likely had some time over the spring but Burrow wasn't there yet. We'll see but I think Coach is talking smack as the pressure is on.

Yep, the unfortunately reality of college football today! I don't have a problem with him, all for giving him 4 years or so to get his recruits in place and make it his program. Not sure most other folks think that way anymore...

I've learned that SEC fans are preconditioned to think they're just as good as Bama or should be in the national championship picture every year.

The reality is today there are only 3 teams that can claim to be at that consistent level every year, and only 1 of them, Bama is in the SEC. All others are just a pipe dream.

Unfortunately, the CFP has created a concept that if you're not top 4, you're shit.

Good thing I don’t try to make a living on sports betting. I’ll take the win for LSU but a long season ahead...

Hmm... Seems a little aggressive to me but I’d take! Have to get through Auburn, Georgia and Alabama first.

Dominant performance by LSU. Lots of recruiting work remains for Miami. Not too surprised by QB play after last year or OL, but defense was also terrible.

Big let down for my Noles. Offense looked terrible - play calling lacked creativity and was too basic - no one could block for the life of them. Special teams were atrocious. Defense was decent once settled in but still needs improvement, especially with 1 on 1 match ups. So many missed red zone opportunities!

That Va Tech defense is underrated. They always play stout defense in these types of games. Also generally, it's easier to get the defense together early in the season than the offense, especially since you've got a whole new staff and scheme.

Yeah VT D looked really good. Suddenly, the trip to Blacksburg in November looks like a major challenge.
