The E46 is the GOAT with its amazing exterior styling and the size was just right. The E90 may have driven nicer than the F30, but the F30 design aside from the hoodline squashes the ugly Hyundai looking E90.
The G20 looks messed up in the front but overall is decent although it has lost some of its German design cues.

Oh how I wish we could go back to Bangle flame surfacing and E46 when they were first introduced...

The howls of outrage and indignation rang true back then, like today.

Now the E46 is being hailed as a GOAT and the E60 as the glory days of BMW

I love it...

The E46 was pre "flame surfacing" and is highly regarded because of it's classic design language, before Bangle got more influence and went crazy. No one thinks of the E60 as good design, it certainly isn't timeless. The only glory day comment that could be made would be in reference to the NA V10.

Yes, driving the brand for 25 years has made me well aware. I've parked lots of different bmw's in the garage over that time.

Trust me, I've read plenty with fan boys paying homage to the E60.

My only point being every generation will have its detractors and supporters. I find it an interesting look @ human nature. And these threads certainly attract the detractors for some reason.

Oh well, I suspect the G20 will reinvigorate 3 series sales and lord knows it was overdue for a next gen platform.

The E46 was before social media. That's the only difference.

I'm not a fan of the new kidney grill design. It's bulky and garish.

Well It's a competitor when I pull up to the stop light... way more common to see a GT than a M340.... so to me it's always been a major competitor... before I bought mine I made sure I could beat my buddy's GT with simple mods since I knew he really couldn't mod without major money spent.... I expected the new M340 to be real close to high 11's and I expect the new M3 to be low 11's... saying it's not a competitor sounds like an easy cop-out.... Well I'm very happy with my current model for the next few years and 2022 the new stang is coming out with rumor it might go AWD... anyways still looking forward to seeing the unbiased driving reviews when they come out...

Has anyone seen anything around the MPG for the 340i? Current gen is actually pretty high all things considered, but with this big of a power bump I wonder if it'll have a large drop off.

No I didn't... it's the perfect car actually.... and this is in order of importance...

4 doors easy access to baby seat in back
AWD... hence why I didn't get the M3
Simple mods low 12's
$10,000 and it's a monster if I want too.
luxurious enough for me
status "it's a bimmer"

So again very happy just was hoping for more on the new model... I'm sure there will be down the line... marketing reasons and all... again ... just was hoping for just a little more at least....

Man, I read that like 3 times and missed it.

Since it's in euro terms, here's what it says:

Fuel consumption in l/100 km (combined): 7,4*

Which comes out to 33.6/58.8 in US MPG...which cannot be right. I would believe the 33.6 number as that's fairly in line with the current model.

I'd go back and compare the figures with the figures of 340i at launch.

I expect an improvement of 10% on the M340i.

I think that kind of sums it up for me as well.

I am sure the design will grow on me over time, but those vertical(ish) character lines on the bumper that grow into the headlights seem overdone. Someone did a quick rendering without them and the front end looked much better.

Can't stand when the exhaust outlet is part of the rear bumper cap like it appears to be on the M340i (BMW's pics aren't that great though so hard to tell). If true, not sure who the designers think they are fooling. It looks cheap.

Hopefully the car drives great!

I've seen more diehard bmw owners go to other brands in the last few years than ever before, and it's not stopping. Unfortunate but true, and I'm an 18 year bmw buyer/owner.
I buy and this will be replacing my ‘12 335i F30. It will be my 4th 3 series.

So in the video the designer said that the vents in the kidney grill open when needed for cooling. If so, what makes the vents open in other words is it an electric fuse or part? Is this something that could wear out over time and get stuck in the closed position due to part failure and overheat the car? I’m thinking long term when car is out of warranty.

Lots of issues with these slats already with cars that have them...

Electric motor... But it's not just the kidney grills that open/close on a G20. This also happens in the lower grill area.

I googled a bit and the current 340i EU combined is 7.7 - 7.4 L / 100km, not sure if one is manual and one is auto or something.
