I would prefer they leave it off the 440i - it’s just branding - and if I purchased one I’d probably remove it. The 40 in 440 used to stand for something strong by itself going back to at least the 540i 6 speed we had in 1997 (well, displacement, but I digress…).

Your presence here is indicative of being a cognoscenti, so clearly understand the difference between an M and an M-Lite… I suspect the vast majority don’t. My neighbor recently got a 440i (and loves it!) but had no clue what a full M was - even though there was one in the neighborhood. I suspect he is far from alone.
Perhaps we need ‘m’ and ‘M”…

Ok, I like the new black-out grill accents with horizontal lines minus the M logo. The M mirror caps look good on this car as on any.

However, how does the X2 have to spec M compound brakes and Quad exhaust pipes options while this M440i face-lift does not?

By the way the interior looks great IMO, but I feel like there are missed options for performance enhancement/upgrade options that are available in the parts bin but are not being offered here?

It’s no different than what Mercedes does with the 43 AMG and Audi does with the s line. They’re just getting in on it too and with them selling cars like this it makes the full M cars more likely to survive. They actually have to sell cars to stay in business. M cars are not core to their business model they would be the first cars to go on the chopping block if the company fell on hard times, so let’s all just be thankful that they exist

Surprising that they are even including the M color stitching on the steering wheel in the M440i.BMW has really decided to add pretty much all the little M styling details in M performance cars now.It makes the steering wheel look so much nicer.

It’s funny. I almost considered going without the 40i badge and possibly the Z4 badge and pretending it was an M roadster… but only because I upgraded the springs to ACS and switched out the conti’s for ⭐️ PSS. Which would be worse? So my conundrum was game, set, match. Look, I agree with you. Most people don’t care and the ones that know, know. I don’t judge but my feelings get in the way. Easier to own a bonified M car.

It’s kind of ridiculous that they didn’t include them now on the M440i because even the new X1 M35i and X2 M35i have them.

True mate. It just irritates me and some minority proportion of idiots show off too much as if it’s a real M. Haha.

The B58 is quite worthy of an M badge.

Maybe. Then the M550i and M850i are more deserving. The point is the holistic package and not individual items. I do agree that the engine is a key factor.

Fair enough, and I’m sure it has one on the engine cover. The issue here is a stand-alone M badge on the exterior of a non-M car. Believe this is a first and IMO crosses the line.

Even though there’s not a lot of interest around here besides me, I’d have liked to see a photo or two of the base 430 (sport) without m-sport pkg and if there’s any changes there.

Quite surprised the bumpers didn’t change at all, unless I’m mistaken, then impossible to tell. Pretty indifferent to this LCI. Tail lights are cool and probably an indication bmw will go with NK themes now. Wonder if the G80 tails will be new.

Just stop. It’s not 1996 anymore. That ship has sailed.

I'll be curious which of these changes also make their way to the 2025 3 series. It could definitely uses some more paint options that aren't some form of white, black or gray.

Nope. It’s 2024, and this is the first time BMW has put a stand-alone M badge on a non-M car, and that’s a brand new ship. And that ship is loaded with horse shit.

Why do you care about how some of us choose to enjoy our cars? Why do you care what the masses think of our cars? Mind your own car. Mind your own philosophies.

Because when it comes down to it, these random strangers you're so worried about, they look at your cars with your silly bolt-ons, dropped suspensions, blacked-out wheels, overtinted-windows, and rudely loud exhausts and judge your ride a hell of a lot more than they'll judge mine for it's tiny M badges.

Relax and take a chill pill. I didn’t attack anyone personally and was a jovial comment. Did I sound worried? You must be having a day. You have no right to make it personal at me. So put a lid on your thoughts and what you type.

Those are the top tiers of those models….but imo none of them should have quads.
