I've initially ordered G21 330i xDrive in Mineral Grey but decided to change it to blue a day after. I read all this thread + following threads:I was determined to order Tanzanite until I saw both colors at a car dealer. I got really disappointed by the Tanzanite! As soon as it gets slightly dirty and it's not very sunny it becomes an average, ordinary, boring blue color for me. Nothing standing out at all.
I went with Portimao straight away. I believe a black kidney matches it much better too. I also took black mirror caps. As for wheels both: grey and black look good! |

I did more or less the same thing. Couldn't decide on the color, but in the end I ordered it in Portimao Blue with black kidneys and tinted rear windows. The seller told me that it was the first G21 he sold in Portimao Blue. All the others were either black, grey, white or silver. Where are you located? I'm from Denmark. I should receive my car around week 42/43. Its a G21 330i M-Sport - can't wait! |

It's nice to hear, maybe there won't to too many Tourings in Portimao! I'm from Poland, expected delivery is week 40 for me (the first week of October). |

I haven't seen a single picture of a BMW G21 in Portimao - except the renderings, so kind of excited to see one in that color in real life! When did you put your order down? First I was told week 50 - that's a looong wait. Last edited by Glaede; 08-20-2019 at 08:14 AM.. |

The most important thing is that the Tanzanite is an individual color. This means the colour has depth that a non-individual colour will never reach. The color changes all the time depending on the surrounding light and shadows. You should never judge the color without seeing it in different circumstances.
One more thing: you can see the difference in technique only when you come close. This is almost never shown by just looking pictures. So try to see the colors in real and up close. Than the differences will be much more clear. As a colour the individual ones are fare more special. Whether you like them is something different of course. I was at the dealer today and coincidentally there was a Tanzanite blue G20. Last edited by Macboy; 08-22-2019 at 10:50 AM.. |

330i touring in portimao blue (delivery 9th Oct)!
I'll be bringing my 330e back to the dealer on 9th of Oct to get my new 330i touring M-Sport High Exec with 19" jet black rims in Portimao Blue!
My current 3-series has Tanzanite Blue and yes it's individual which works great in sunlight, but as soon as weather outside is grey and especially in case the car's a bit dirty, then it becomes just a boring blue car. You hardly see the difference (if you see it at all) with non-individual blue. Up close you see the difference, from a distance not at all. Personally for this reason I'd never chose this color again. I guess it'll be one of the first new 3-series tourings delivered in NL (my dealer said it'll be their first), let alone in Portimao which for most people isn't the first color of choice. I'll post a few pics once it's there. |

I ordered a M340i in Portimao. I was smitten with Tanzanite for a while and I saw it in person on a few cars at a BMW car show and while it looks utterly amazing in the sun, the shadows or the car in overcast conditions looks very unremarkable to me. Portimao doesn't have quite the same depth/variation but it never looks dull. San Marino is the perfect blue IMO.

I did not have the option of picking the color since I got the HEA version so had to go with Portimao Blue, but having seen both colors in person I'd still go with Portimao.

Paying that additional money for a metallic blue on top of the metallic up charge is something I decided to boycott. I love the color but, the up charge as a money grab.

My choice would be Le Mans Blue. But thats not available anymore, sadly.
Of the two mentioned in OP Portimao Blue would be my option. But then I am biased! One thing that struck me about Portimao is it takes on an almost blue/purple hue in bright sunlight. But in lower light or overcast days it looks more of a vivid blue. Paired with oyster leather it looks awesome. Only downside is G20 msport isnt available with oyster headlining....... |

I had the same thing – ordered Portimao Blue, then ran back to the dealer a few days later to change to TZ Blue. No regrets.
The problem with Portimao Blue is that they should have called it Portimao Purple. Maybe it's the cloudy weather in my country, but that color really isn't that blue as it shows in brochures and on the BMW website. |

Its obviously not to everyones taste but I kind of like the differing looks of the car in different weather and light. Its different again when its wet with dew as the sun comes up. |

Beautiful F30 (red one on previous page). I don't see many in MR (I'm sure the g20 would wear red well too).
To address the question of which blue, they're both nice colors, but I prefer the tanzanite. |

Thx for posting that video. It was very helpful. Some of the photos of Tanzanite look stunning, but I think the video truly gives you a realistic view of how often it actually looks stunning, which I would say was rare. The only time it looked good in the video was from a certain angle when the sun was hitting the car perfectly. The rest of the time, the car looked like a pretty boring blue or even black. I’d say in that video, it only looked good maybe 5-10% of the time. It’s definitely a stunning color, but seems to be so only under very specific circumstances.
