Production Delay

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I ordered my 2020 330i over a week ago and it is still showing at the first step "order received". Has anyone else ordered one recently and its stuck?

I contacted my CA and he said there is a delay right now but it should be moving along soon, but he couldn't tell me why there was a delay. Not sure if that's just the go to excuse when a customer asks.

I was hoping to do PCD the first week of October but at this rate that wont happen

Yes, mine was on "order received" for almost a month, as it was not it's assigned production week yet. Did your CA give you a production week? Mine did hit that week once it got started, and went from in the paint booth to dispatched from factory in one day. Pretty sure all that didn't happen in one day, so guessing the tracker is not so accurate. Best bet is to contact your CA, or the BMW genius hotline. They have a better view of what is going on. Mine is at the port now, and I just hung up with the genius looking for a ship name, but not assigned yet... Agony, I tell you... HTH!

Contact CA or BMW Genius with your production number and get your build week / status. Also ask if car is being built in Germany or Mexico. If Mexico you'll save 2+ weeks.

Thanks for the tips. I'll call bmw genius and ask those questions.

Is there any real difference between having it built in Germany or Mexico? I thought they were all built in Germany. It would seem more authentic that way lol

Nah, don't worry about production location. The SLP Mexico plant is brand new. Automation is high and BMW surely has plenty of European staff on site to monitor production/quality.

FYI, BMW had been building the 3 series in South Africa for years. SA plant ended 3 series production at conclusion of 2018 production year. Now secondary production is in Mexico in BMWs shiny new plant.

It's been discussed at length on this forum but it's too early to tell how the defect rate will be between the Mexico plant and the German plant.

My 340i was assembled in the South Africa plant and I had no problems with it. The SA plant actually won awards for having the lowest defect rate (even lower than the Germany plants). My parents had an X3 that was from the Spartanburg plant though and that had a bunch of assembly and fitment issues.

Where will the Mexico plant fall into? Only time will tell.

Well calling bmw genius was pointless. Girl on the phone had no information other than that my order has been received. She had nothing on the production week or what plant it would be assembled at.

Try your CA at dealership. If it was an already allocated car, they will know.

did you make sure the dealer had a allocation? I assume you got a production number correct?

Yes I have a production number. My CA said he talked to his manager and that there is a delay at bmw production, but didnt know or wouldn't say what the delay was.

I guess I'll just wait a few more days and see if anything changes. It's already been at "order received" for over a week.

Did he/she give you the production week? That should be your answer.

Just wait, the angst gets worse as the process appears to drag on forever...

Yeah I asked her for the production week and she said she doesn't have that information.

Sounds a little fishy. If they ordered the car, they would know that week if it was allocated. I watched my guy pull it up. Somebody there has to know... Also something I was not told would happen but was hoping for, but didn't happen, is if the allocated vehicle that you ordered actually has a sale attached to it, it would jump the line to actual production. No dice. Maybe she does know, and does not want to tell you that you are still a month+ away from production? Not trying to pee in your Cheerios, just provide some perspective. Believe me when I tell you that I know it sucks being in limbo, and having no solid answer from those that should have it. Get used to it...

I agree. If the dealership isn't telling you the production week then it's likely because it's so far off they don't want to discourage you from staying put. The dealership had no problem giving me the production week before I ordered.

If they can’t tell you production week then it means they don’t have an allocation. You’ll be in a holding pattern until they get one.

Yeah I thought they were being a little shady. I'm going to give it a few more days and then just cancel the order if it still hasn't changed.

Did you put a deposit down ? It should change to priority one - "customer sold " the dealership is actually the one that changes the priority from what I heard

Yeah I put a $1000 deposit. It's still sitting at order received and it's been 2 weeks. I'm going to give them a few more days and tell them to forget it if it's still not moving.

Either go to the dealer and ask CA to login to DCS and show you your production number details. Will give more details on status, delays, production week, etc. Or call him and ask him for a screenshot.

So my 2020 330 has been at the final processing center in NJ since 7/23. According to the manager at my dealer, there was no damage in transit but BMW is holding all 2020 330's for a "coordinated release" to dealers. Anyone here familiar with how long this could be?? Dealer seems to think it could be any day now - BMW told them last week if the car wasn't released to check back on Friday (the 16th). I'm still waiting for further updates. The wait is killing me, it's so close!
