Many people have so little control in so many aspects of their lives. Working paycheck to paycheck, with no autonomy, family pressures or loneliness for lack of human connections, crushing debt, whatever. For them, the car is the singular place where they are the boss. I've noticed before COVID there were some drivers who have some curtesy but with the pandemic everyone's on edge and driving like maniacs or they just don't give a damn going 50 mph in the fast lane. It's alway one extreme or the other for me in LA.
