AA Catted downpipe or alternative?

I have a 2020 M340i currently tuned with a stock downpipe. I have ruled out getting a catless downpipe as I don't want to deal with the smell and the significant increase in sound. I see that the AA catted downpipe costs much more than others. Other than not throwing a CEL and better quality, is it really worth it to get the AA catted DP over other catted options if my car is tuned already? If not, what are alternative catted DPs that have good fit and finish?

The MAD catted is an excellent option if the check engine light is not a concern.

its a little louder than AA but everything else is the same

No, If you are tuned there is no reason to spend that much. It will be more restrictive than say a 200 cell and since you do not need the benefits of keeping the cel off you might as well go with the better flowing downpipe as save some money

Since the AA dp has a 400 cell cat, is there a big difference in smell and noise compared to the 200 cell MAD dp?

MAD is a little louder from what i have seen, the smell is the same (not noticeable in my opinion)

^ Best of both worlds. 200cel so it's cheaper and louder than AA and it won't throw a cel even on a stock tune.

We offer CG precision; while it's got a good record on the F chassis, you don't get any guarantee. This means you won't get a free replacement if it does trigger the check engine light.

The new chassis is much more tricky than the old one, so Active had to upgrade their cats to the newer GESI. The original GESI did not trigger a CEL on the F chassis but was not as reliable on the G chassis.

I want to see more customers try the CG precision on the G chassis before I can say it won't trigger the check engine light.3

As a personal choice, if I'm spending $1000 on a downpipe, I'd rather spend another ~ $300 for the guarantee.

I second Mike’s advice. The cost/time for the install is another reason to make the right decision the first time….

^^^^ This! Not always, but sometimes it really is worth it to pay a high premium for piece of mind and quality.

Not sure this is true. Pretty much should count on it throwing a CEL

I agree. But if I’m paying $1300 then I might as well pay an extra $700 and get the Fabspeed 200 cell DP which also guarantees no CEL and has a lifetime warranty instead of a 5 and 2 year warranty. I mean if after 2 years I get CEL then I’m SOL? and might have to spend another $1300 on a new DP?

OP is tuned, wouldn't care about a cel, so MAD dp be a lot cheaper, flow better and just as good quality. Why spend that much more for AA on a tuned engine.

In my opinion, these cats don't fail in 2 years, not even close, or else I would have hundreds of warranty cases. but with that said, if this is a worry and you prefer to pay more and get a lifetime warranty then yes, Fabspeed is the better option for you.

if the CEL is not a concern, the MAD downpipe is the best value in my opinion
