Dale Jr's plane just crashed in my backyard!

Well. Not exactly my backyard but just down the hill from my house.

Pics taken on way home.

Also links to story.

I thought of you when I saw that last night. Didn't realize you were so close to Bristol. Based on the pictures, they were freakin lucky to get out. Scary stuff....

The airport was the Carter County airport in Elizabethton. I drive by it everyday. I live at the top of a mountain but work in the city of Bristol. Drive by the racetrack every day as well.

Crazy! The plant manager here walked through my office yesterday and mentioned it, but I was completely involved with something else.....probably these forums, truth be told; and didn't pay much attention to what he said - business as usual.

I know exactly where this is. When I was a regional supervisor, I had 2 stores in Johnson City. Glad everyone survived!

Foiled this time Clintons!

I can't imagine watching a race at Bristol. I've been to Dover, and that's a mile. Bristol is what, 3/4 of a mile? Must be interesting.

It's only a half mile. Seats 162,000 people.

They do 'speedway in lights' every year and you get to do one lap around the track in your personal car and they are pretty liberal with how fast you can go and how high on the bank. I've taken the Miata and E93 before.

I plan to take the 360 this year......(grin).

Watkins Glen has "drive the glen" pretty similar but you have to follow a pace car.

This is free.

There are many events where you can do proper time on the track as well as auto-x in the infield.

We also have weekly drag race events for locals at Thunder Valley.

These are paid things though.

Sheesh I live under a rock. Drove right through there last night and had no idea this had happened. Glad to hear they are all right and jealous of where you live!

We were up in that area at the end of July. We stayed in Johnson City and rafted the Nolichucky River out of Erwin.

Ha, thank you, sir! I accidently moved here about 13 years ago, and never left. Just built a new house on top of the mountain. Helluva view.

Very nice. We have a house in Johnson City as well, just finished a new home on Roan Mtn. It's a lovely area. The Noli is quite a fun river. Erwin's a bit of a dump, but they do hang Elephants there, so that's pretty cool I guess, haha.
