This is definitively just put on as camo, so there is no grille at all mounted on this vehicle to not show the final slats design.

However, what could be final is the bar between the grille where the licence plate is mounted, it is much narrower than on the other test cars.

So my asumtion: Behind the camo is the final front bumper with the holes for the grille, but there is no grille mounted, therefore those camo-slats

yeah no. this post was too logical and level headed for me.

we're supposed to be enthusiasts. we should be raiding BMW headquarters with torches and pitchforks in hand demanding they bring back the E30 and E46 and make nothing else because they are the greatest cars of all time and BMW have lost their way. over and over again.
+1

But all my energy is focused on 2 series RWD sedan
That day may actually come when it's offered in Electric only configurations.

Yes Audi enlarged their grills and the initial reaction was critical but everyone has moved on. On the other hand, Acura's giant TL grill/beak was controversial but never caught on and the design was abandoned.

My point is that controversial doesn't always work. And big grills don't always work.

I agree, there is no grill behind those bars but I still believe the production grille will be huge but proportional to the overall vehicle styling.

The TL tanked big time after they introduced that grill/beak in 09. It hasn't seen sales as good as the 04-08 model ever since and they've been trying to get back. I sadly see the same thing with this new introduction if they don't figure out an improved front end.

Pretty sure everyone liked the audi grill when it came out, ok at least pretty sure I did. Audi at least made it so a usa plate had a place to sit. The only option with this is an offset plate, which almost no one will do outside the enthusiasts, so majority of these will look fugly

It appears from spyshots that M3 grill is larger but not as tall as the 4 series concept, so either 4 will be more aggressive than 3 (unlikey) or the 4 concept is not to production (also unlikely). So I am just confused

The denial is strong with this one 😁

Let's face it, it's not gonna look good. The BMW grille is a very unique design trait amongst automakers, it's not something you can change or adapt without putting a lot of thought beforehand. Imo, it works better horizontally than vertically. Worked great on 8 and Z4 concepts. Also, reduce the size and thickness of the slats. Even replace them with discreet mesh. It makes a whole lot of difference. One of the reasons the X7 and especially the LCI 7 Series grilles look so obnoxious is the sheer size of the slats. The X5 Hydrogen concept looks fantastic with the dark mesh and it still has a massive grille.

The kidney grille is more difficult to work compared to MB or Audi for example because it is bisected in the middle. It's easier to play with the size and shape of a more or less rectangular or trapezoidal grille.

Some excellent implementations are the M1 Hommage, i8 and 8 Series race car. No slats, no thick bezels, horizontal and three dimensional. Taking a lot of inspiration from the past still.

Also not confident on the production headlights. The concept was OK in that respect but had no covers. The test cars appear to have long, way too long headlights under the covers. (Too)Long narrow headlights, tall vertical grille, don't think it's gonna work well visually.

The vision dynamics has long narrow headlights and a tall grill and it looks good to me. I don’t think that combination in itself should be a concern.

It will look like the 4 series grill. It's a cooling test.

Most people complain about this huge grill and PANIC.
At the end they will be the first in the line to order one.

That is not really a grille in the traditional sense.

This is.

And this, by some seen as one of the most beautiful volume cars of it’s time.

The concept 4 is not a copy but a modern BMW interpretation of this design language.

My point is that controversial doesn't always work. And big grills don't always work.
Acura tried bold and controversial and their sales fell through the floor. They started taking polls of customers shopping for the TL, of the people who chose not to buy the car after seeing it at their dealership, something like 90% said the grille was a major factor in them not wanting to buy the car. Acura wisely worked quickly to change their styling, I personally think they’re making really great looking cars right now.

Audi’s grille size was controversial but the grilles always looked good, they work with their styling language.

Giant, vertical kidney grilles will be tough to pull off correctly. It’s possible but I don’t think this 4 series concept looks great from the front. The CSL concept was fantastic, Vision Dynamics looks utterly awful if you ask me.

FWIW, it's Acura!!! The only good things to come from them were the NSX and the 93-96 Acura Integra.

It looks great but I'm afraid production 4 Series won't look anything like that. These are sleek and concealed headlights. Production headlights look significantly bigger and bubbly. Also, this grille is non functional mostly an ornament.
