Ouch, that's not nice! The accident and something not working has it should. Sorry for your troubles.

How do you guys manage to check the version of the installed software? Still didn't figure that out...

There is an issue with it not always being on and needing an iDrive reset to get it working..... is this what was wrong with yours?

Not good... kinda defeats the reason for having it.

As described in another thread I have put a widget (Drive Recorder) on the home screen so it is visible to see if it is working or not. If not I do a reset.... a bit of a pain until they get this fixed.

I know about the widget workaround. However iDrive loses my home address when I reset it. So 'hey BMW, navigate home' is greeted by 'I don't know your home address'. Which is a PITA on its own.

Mines in with the dealer today. Apparently they've updated the software and can't replicated the drive recorder error.

I guess time will tell when I pick up the car later on.

So it's came back from the dealer. Only 1 day in so haven't had a chance to test if this is resolved fully yet. I have noticed though they've put my software up to 07/2019.70.

I just got this software version when I took my car in for rear camera recall.

Is this Drive Recorder an added option or is a feature of thee software? If it's software, how do you access it from the iDrive menu?

Drive Recorder

I just took delivery of an 840d convertible and have the same problem since delivery.
Been to the dealers 3 times and they have no idea so far what the problem is.
Updated the software last Friday but still not working more than 24 hours.
So then pestered BMW GB and they don't yet have a 'fix' and the only way to keep it working is to do the reset by holding the audio button for more than 20 seconds.
I suggest everyone with the problem emails BMW GB Directors - that normally works!

Drive recorder is only available if you spec'd park assistant plus (you have 4 cameras around your car)

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear that it didn't fix the issue.

I raised a question on the 24th via the Connected Drive team who forwarded the issue to relevant department with a promise of a response within 48 hours......I'm still waiting.

Not sure which dealer you use in Hampshire - I now tend to use Barons, so may well raise it with them.

I raised this with my dealers “genius” last week, so far no response. I intend to video the issue and follow up with him in the next few days.

Not good enough from BMW!

I have 4 cameras and parking assistant plus as part of executive package, but I can't seem to find it in my car -- is it something that doesn't make it to US?

"Driver recorder" is treated as an add-on. Either you order a new car with it (like I did) or you purchase the add-on on the BMW-connected online store.

As I've had no response regarding this, I've sent a complaint letter to BMW UK highlighting this issue and also asked for a refund for Park Assistant Plus as I only purchased this for Drive Recorder.
