Adblue

Hi there, my car has just had its second service and in one year of ownership I have covered almost 17,000 miles. This is my first Diesel car that uses the Adblue system and assumed it would get replenished during the service but on checking the levels it requires 4 litre with a range of 6500 miles remaining. This got me thinking so i checked the manual which said, dependant on driving style, i should be topping up once between services. Something isn't adding up as i have never replenished the tank. What are others experience with Adblue? does it require to be filled between services and does 4 litre in 17,000 miles sound anywhere near correct for mostly sedate motorway driving.

Any and all assistance appreciated

That’s nothing. My A6 gets through about 2 litres every 1000 miles. Glad to be going back to petrol.

I came from an E220d and had the same experience as Xenon. Buying 10 litres of it every 6-7000 miles. Merc garage said it was normal.

At least the A6 has a 20l tank so the range is good but an extra 20Kg to lug around

If it’s not using much then it’s not a problem 😎

Not sure on the G20 yet, but my F20 used the full 10L in about 15k miles. I wouldn't worry about it as it just lowers emissions.

I think that will be your answer. Sedate motorway driving, all about the engine load. My nephew has a VW Transporter which guzzles AdBlue like there is no tomorrow. Driven hard and loaded much of the time.

I presently have a 2018 X3 2.0d, it took 2 years and 36,000Km before I had to top it up. Took about 6 litres.

Just as a reference... from VW material.

Quote:
The size of the AdBlue® tank fitted to your car will vary depending on which Volkswagen model you have, therefore the interval between top-ups will vary. In addition, many factors such as mileage, journey type, driving style and environmental conditions can influence how much AdBlue® is consumed. A passenger car can consume approximately 1.5 litres of AdBlue® every 620 miles (1.0–1.5 litres for the Passat and Passat Estate). ...
Illustrates that many variables are involved.

It’s crazy stuff. My evoque was drinking it 14L every 3500 miles!

Thanks for the replies all. I guess i will just keep an eye on it to see if it uses any in the next couple of thousand miles. The section in the manual isn't very informative as it suggests a single refill between services and although i said sedate motorway driving (70mph) it does get a blast several times a week.
