I don't think it looks too bad in black at all and the infamous bulbous grille distinguishes the look of a modern-era BMW..

As much as people hate it here, the public actually sees this as a design advantage.. Weird times..

It is starting to grow on me I must admit. The only problem I see is you better live in a country with a nice number plate design as it is going to stand out a lot If you don’t! Avoid at all costs if you have square number plates

I've dug up BMWs annual reports along with their press releases, especially when they hired the new design head. I'm thinking they wanted to accentuate key parts of BMW's design in order to satisfy their emergent clientele in China, but I feel that their hire of the new design head was an overshoot. I get that they wanted to go in a different direction but I believe they may have gone too far. I would not doubt that, if the next design is just as bad, that he will be gone in a short number of years. At some point, BMW has to cut their losses and realize that they screwed up. Personally, I would wait to see what the sales figures are and if they are not up to target, fire him.

The design is just horrible. I'm sure the interior is very nice and I'm sure that the drivetrain is going to be awesome, but seriously when's the last time you bought a car because it had a good personality.
The interior gauges, or rather lack thereof are terrible so....failing there too. Instead of a nice watch we get a microwave oven display .

With BMW's aging was always the key to liking the design, but with this one the more I look at it the more I am thinking what the hell.
Maybe in flesh the car looks better, but I somehow doubt it.

It was bad enough to replace the vertical slats with the Kia crap, and this thing is ugly no matter what color!

BMW has been making M-seats optional on many non-M cars in different counties. The US does not have this option though.

I definitely felt it has the Hyundai Genesis vibes mixed with a little Mazda 6 and Infiniti. They could have for sure done a better job but this particular color combo isn't quite as bad IMO.

I guess I do not understand why a small or large grill is not just an option now to allow for different market aesthetics

BMW used to be nice and pure with RWD platforms and N/A engines but now that they've succumb to the so called demands of the buying public with automatic transmissions, AWD and cookie cutter designs with an awful front end design, I don't understand why people don't just jump ship to Audi given that they have nicer designs and much better interiors.

First of all I owned 2 prior Audi's before coming over to BMW. I was an Audifanboy but I also liked other brands. I have also owned 3 MB's and I can tell you that before jumping over to another brand the grass is not greener. MB has horrible reliability. I had no major issues with my Audi but my minor issues was handled by Audi horrendously.
You complain about BMW going to AWD but you do realized Audi is also AWD, but has a front drive bias unless you get the sport vectoring diff.
BMW design definitely has taken a step back with the ugly grille but driving dynamics are better than Audi. Wow it was hard to admit that.
