Turning indicators - too quiet

Is there a way to make the sound of the turning indicators a bit louder? I find that they are not audible over the sound of music in the car and this has left me with the indicators still blinking when they do not cancel on their own on the odd occassion. I'm on ID7 BTW!

LOL! Yeah, people not using indicators is a bit of a bugbear of mine. I had a work collegue some years ago say to me one day, "you know those days when you just can't be bothered using indicators"

I said yeah, flicking that stalk requires so much effort, in a rather sacastic tone.

She did not talk to me again for a few days, but hey.. FFS!! Really?

It's just basic road manners at the very least.

I asked the same question a while ago and the simple answer is No, that's as loud as they get, no volume control whatsoever.

Oddly I had a G20 loan car last year whilst mine had some warranty work and the indicator was a lot louder than mine.

The noise came from the other footwell though on this car so assumed they may have updated the speaker for the indicator noise in newer models.

I’m going to guess the reason for the quiet indicator is the insulation covering the relay/fusebox and possibly the higher quality relay (the relay switching is what causes the usual tick-tock sound) used by BMW.

I’m pretty sure mine plays the indicator tick over the speakers (or maybe another speaker somewhere) rather than it being the relay click. At least, after many years of tinkering with relays the noise in my car doesn’t actually sound like one.

People that have added an improved amp always then have issues with the indicators being much louder so it’s definitely coming through the audio system. So if you do want louder signals just fit an amp!

Interesting! So the volume level of the indicators must be written in the code for one of the modules or the head unit then.

Sadly, I've not read a G20 cheatsheet for Bimmercode that provides the facility to alter the volume level.

Pity, that would give me another reason to actually buy the Bimmercode app.

It is a separate small speaker located on the access panel that needs to be removed to access the fuse box located on that side.

Have a look at the pictures in this discussion to see which panel I mean

In the 1980s perhaps. Since CAN bus it’s completely solid-state and the sound is played through the sound system.

You could try switching the system sounds within BimmerCode to a different set and see if there’s one where the turn signal is a bit louder and more attention catching.

Do you mean changing the stock Harman Kardon audio profile to the Bowers and Wilkins audio profile?

No. There are different system sound packs under the Receiever Audio Module section. You can use turn signal and system audio packs from different BMW models, Mini, and Rolls-Royce vehicles.

Oh! OK, I'll do a bit of digging in the US forum and see if I can find any posts that suggest that might help. Thanks!

There's a demo video of some of the PDC tones at
. The indicator sounds do change but I can't find any videos of those after a quick search.

Thanks! I've seen those in the G20 cheatsheet, and wondered what the tones would sound like. For me the BMW one is the one I's stick with anyway, having now heard the PDC tones.

I think I'll have a look at the speaker Boristhebold refered too a few post back, but it seems that a few years ago,, BMW made a change to the indicator volume with practically every ID7 update they realeased, some made it louder, some quieter.

I have seen a reference to it on a module at "Blinker_Volume", but nobody has got it to change by changing the Hex values in the code, from what I can find.
