Coding to turn in Apple Car Play
So rumor has it that Apple Car Play is now a service that's free the first year and $80/year after that. Is there a way to turn it on with coding after the first year to avoid the service fee? Not sure if it reports back to the mother ship that it is enabled and then the mothership blocks access to it. Is this now standard on all cars I did not see the option in the configurator.

Honestly the Apple Car Play is a gimmick. You'll use the new iDrive a lot more |

Do you think that eventually BMW will make Spotify available via idrive?

I prefer iDrive over ACP because its cleaner, more integrated and easier access to Contacts, etc. . . . however when I switch back to iDrive then Siri Eyes Free stops working. The BMW Genius informed me that Siri Eyes Free will only work now when Carplay is active. When I asked if this was by design or a bug. . .he did not know! So, as of now, if you elect to use iDrive instead of Carplay connection then Siri Eyes Free is gone. Are they trying to force us to subscribe to Carplay?
About the only thing ACP offers me is access to text messages where Siri Eyes Free can also read and send text, email, voice mail and much more. |

I just checked, you're mistaken; BMW APP is still available on iDrive 7 and G20.

However, I was just worried that I would lose the current "Rhapsody" widget, under BMW APPs, whenever I upgrade to the next generation of BMWs. That would make me sad.. Thanks for the clarification. |

I suppose that eventually it will be offered in the USA as the "free" BMW Apps is gone -probably the reason of removing it as the subscription will be paid thru BMW. Last edited by Encanto; 06-29-2019 at 08:22 AM.. |
