Bmw glass sunroof not initialized error
My sunroof just quit working tonight for the first time. When I try to open or close it just says "bmw glass sunroof not initialized". I tried researching and doing the steps to hold the button to do a reset. If I hold the button after about 15 seconds it clicks a few time but won't do anything else. Any ideas? The only thing I did was install an android auto update tonight but can't see that causing the problem?

It´s quick routine inside of ISTA+ to initialize the sunroof.
Is your dealer far away? Otherwise i would go there and ask them to initialize.

Sometimes the procedure just doesn't work. I tried it multiple times with no success, and had to take it to the dealer twice to get it properly done. The first time they tried, it failed right at the dealer as soon as I got the keys back.

I had to take it to the dealer to fix. I'm not sure what they did exactly but it took them like 2 hours to fix it. There was actually another 330I there the same day I went with the same sunroof issue getting his fixed also.

I’m going in tomorrow with the same issue, found out it was the motor for the shade.
My dealer did troubleshoot it and found out the motor was bad, so a new one was ordered to be installed tomorrow. If the sunshade part of the sunroof has failed, you’ll get that clicking of the switch.

I had mine replaced in january 2023 (same deal with sunshade motor replaced), now in december it failed again… now my car is out of warranty. I will try resetting it on my own, first pull out the fuses and if this does not work, I will disconnect the battery.

Same issue, took it to the dlship and they said that the motor for the sunroof is faulty, they are ordering it now, waiting on that. Maybe (seems like everyone is having the same issue) is a software bug!?

To me it seems to be a software issue, being the second time this happened to me, the car started giving the error only after completing the sun shade retraction.
I tried pulling out the F25 and F36 fuses, then in a separate attempt I've cut the power from the 12V battery, but no luck in both cases. I will try ordering a BimmerCode OBD2 adapter and try erasing all the errors before taking it to the dealer. |

Great news guys, my sunroof has started working out of nowhere, confirming once again it's a software or a false sensor reading issue.
After my post on 8th of December 2023 (see above), I've quit trying to debug it and I've also scheduled a dealer service appointment on 6th of February 2024. Today I had to wait in the car for a bit and I thought to myself "let's give it another try reinitialising" and IT WORKED. I only kept the button pressed, as the manual said. I guess this is my cars' gremlin. I cannot tell how this issue got resolved really, because none of what I've tried worked immediately. But it's worth taking also a look on this thread/post: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...e=2&p=30530601 |

Fuse location
Hi
I wonder where the fuses are located on a 330E Xdrive 2024. I forgot to ask the tech last time I went at the garage. It would be nice to know where the fuel pump fuse is located so has to remove it to protect against thieves while parking for a long time in an airport parking. Thanks |

My car just started having this error. When I try to initialize, the sunroof only tilts, sunshade remains closed, and then nothing happens.
I look up on BimmerLink and I have motor errors. Will be at dealer this week for service . |

Mine is having the same issue the 3rd time. Again stuck with the glass closed and sunshade open.
Frustrating I have to admit. Last edited by bighost; 02-17-2024 at 08:01 AM.. |

It’s definitely a bug. And often requires a trip to the dealer. Some have had to replace the sunroof motor; others have had a software fix.

Same issue. My sunshade wouldn’t open, then did a couple weeks later. Now it won’t close. The glass opens and closes but the sunshade won’t close.
Seems to me a software issue. Very frustrating. Edit: I took the car to the dealer, it was under warranty. All they did was perform a software initialization (not the one in the manual that has you push the button for 15 seconds) and it worked. |

Brace yourselves, I'm gonna get a bit into details.
I get "sunroof not initialized" while still in warranty (december 2022). Glass was closed, sunshade fully opened, a clicking sound was coming from the headliner when pushing the buttons. Went to the dealer and fixed it for free, they replaced the sunshade motor which was "faulty" (the motor itself was not broken, apparently the problem is a pair of hall sensors). In december 2023 the problem appeared again, identical behaviour, except this time I was out of warranty. I asked the dealer if the previous repair has some kind of warranty itself and of course they said "no, the repair takes the warranty of the car". Since the glass was closed and it was winter, I did not rush to fix it. I scheduled the car for a brake pad change in january 2024 and thought that I was going to solve the problem in the service entry. In the meanwhile I tried fixing it myself. After reading the X3 forum (https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...e=2&p=30530601) which apparently has the same issue, I tried to take out the fuses and battery. Nothing appeared to work. I was so frustrated about this gremlin that I was trying the button every time I got in the car. The day before the service appointment the sunroof started working again... did the calibration, all fine and dandy. One month later I was facing the same problem again. I bought myself a Vgate VLinker BM+ BLE+BT (works with both Android and iOS, beware the Bluetooth one works only with Android, the Wi-Fi on only with iOS, from my experience) and using BimmerLink I got the 030207 error as the main source of the problem, which was "SHD, Hall elements A and B: Motor unit defective or open circuit". Using the https://bmwfault.codes/ site and entering that error code, for some BMW variants te label is "Sliding/tilting sunroof: Hall effect sensors A and B not responding". So this time my problem is with the glass motor, not the shade one which was replaced. Since my car was already out of warranty I started to take apart the Roof Function Center, to check for loose connectors. All seemed fine, I even took the shade motor out since it was in an easier to access position. What did the trick finally? I used an allen wrench/hex key and moved the glass and shade mechanisms manually, a quarter of a turn and then roughly back to the original position. The issue might reappear some time in the future, who knows, but it seems that the motors are just fine, the hall sensors are the one to blame. |
