That would be fully loaded with just about every option except extended shadow line trim and one of the two individual paint colors. Looks good with the Oyster interior.

Then don't.

That's what I've been telling all my older clients.
The younger crowd seems to love it. I honestly can't wait till my lease is up so I can get one

The ugliest $72K coupe in the market. And for the record: I'm not an old fart crying for old times and resisting the change.

Without the BMW badges I would say this is a generic japanese/american coupe without any character. All recognizable BMW design elements are lost. Sideline proportions, Hofmeister kink, rear light cluster. All gone. This car has absolutely no BMW DNA in it's design. But above all, the front is plain ugly. And not because of the size of the grill(s). It's the weird shape of that pig faced openings that just look out of place like they've been pasted from another vehicle.

It's a shame that such a great car ended up designed this way.

I think you meant Artic Race Blue with Cerium Grey accents and Oyster interior.

Mine is will be at my local port in a week and then another 7-10 days until delivery. I'll post pics and let all the critics tell me how ugly it is and how much they hate it.

I agree. I say give it a few months. And then people will be talking about how they love the big grill.

Thanks for sharing, what were your thoughts around exterior styling having seen it in person? It does look quite good to me from the angle you've taken the front shot

I think the majority of folks are never going love that grill. They may grow not to hate it, but I don’t think they’ll ever love it.

Why the Sonata rear? Double shocker after expecting the front to be the ugliest part.

Looks good! ...just ordered mine.

For the record I like the grill, although it breaks from the Bmw heritage, I wouldn’t have liked the car with smaller grills.

This feels closer to Bentley or audi / mercedes like this, nice change

I’m looking forward to measuring the grill and comparing the actual size to a 3. I’m guessing it’s maybe 20% bigger, especially when you include the bulbous surround of the 3. Some people just can’t get over the vertical shape which actually has more BMW heritage than their currently leased bloated kidneys.

That is not what any enthusiast sees as a positive thing...

That said, the G8x looks way better than the G22 IMO

To be honest, I hate it. Look, I'm an artist (pen and ink wildlife), so I tend to automatically see (or not see) curves, lines, textures, etc. as art. So understand that's where I'm coming from.

That being said, to me, the E46 M3 will forever be the most artistic and gorgeous piece of machinery. Everything about it just works to my eye. I wasn't a fan of the E9X M's. The wow factor was lost somewhere. To be fair, the E46 was a tough act to follow. When the F8X M's came out, I again was back in lust with the shape... Hell, I bought one (and will likely keep it for quite awhile lol)!

Now here we seem to be again. The G2X/G8X (whichever), to ME, has lost the charm. Aside from the large vertical grills (which are heinous), the overall car seems like it was pieced together in a kindergarden class. Ok not really a kindergarden class, but you get what I'm saying. I just don't really know what to say about it anymore. I just hate it. YMMV

I actually think it is a good looking car, just that it could be better with a toned-down grill that pays more respect to the BMW heritage by not tossing the signature look of the kidney grill (as cheesy as it sounds, it matters to some of us).

I can understand younger buyers preferring one look over the other, I just wonder what the market is like for a car in this price range for the younger demographic. I know there are SOME younger guys who can drop big bucks on a car, the occasional Youtube superstar or just someone so into automobiles they're okay with spending so much of their salary on a lease payment while carefully rationing their monthly food expenditure...

But, are there as many of those as there are GenXers and Boomers who can truly afford this type of car?

Simply put, yes. I’m technically at the tail end of years for the millennial age group (apparently it covers people born as far back as 1980?) and I could buy one cash tomorrow if I so chose. Many of my coworkers could too - software engineer / EE / hardware engineers all start at about $110k or so at my company, and we don’t even try to pay top dollar. One of my neighbors graduated at 23 years old. First job started him at $97k. After 2 years he jumped to Google, their offer was $190k. So now he’s 26 making almost $200k per year. He bought a Tesla 3 Performance rather than a BMW but he easily could have afforded an M3/M4 and his path / pay is pretty common around here.

I’d imagine the GenX and boomers who work in tech are even better situated, having made $$$$$$$$$$ during the dot com boom.

Edit - as another example, though this one's more of an outlier - I have a friend who majored in Computer Science because she wanted to be a surgeon. So she became a software engineer purely to stack cash for med school. In 3 years she made about $300k in cash (after living expenses) and then got a nice chunk from an IPO. She's doing her residency now and will be graduating debt free. She could easily buy an M8 if she wanted at that point but isn't really into cars.
