There are places where you can have fun with your car (i.e. a track), a public road is not one of them. If you want to drive dangerously and risk hurting yourself, you are free to do so if you want, but never put other people's lives or property at risk. And having no one else around you is not an excuse, because there are plenty of stupid people who will break the rules too, whether intentionally or not, and they will come out of nowhere and one of those times you might not have enough time to react. Nothing is worth either your or someone else's life. |

Ha. What a silly issue for such drama. And not having anyone around IS the perfect excuse for not using turn signals.

I indicate when I change lanes 99% of the time so I don't have an issue with that part of the feature. My issue lies when you need to intentionally break a lane marker to go in/out of a lane in quick succession such as:
In these situations BMW correcting your steering wheel is dangerous and stupid. |

This feature was introduces on X5.
Consensus was to set it up like this: - Vibration on - so it will vibrate if you leave lane - Intervention - off - until it has a better program In this configuration it works great. Auto driving assist pro also has auto lane change - if you hold the signal for 3 sec the car will change lanes automatically and continue auto driving. (pretty entertaining - like playing computer game) Blind spot detection has the steering intervention if you try to drive into the vehicle next to you ( leave it on) The trick is to make those systems work for you and not fight them. I used to be against all that stuff - manual cars for 20 years. But seating in bumper to bumper traffic - it is a life saver and makes the driving so much less stressful. And when it opens up - turn it off, put it in sport mode and take off. |

It was a real PITA on my loaner car, didn't know it was on till I had to fight it then I did turn it off. Completely unnecessary a vibration on the steering wheel maybe but not actively preventing lane changes.

It really surprised me the first time it happened. I swerved to the right to avoid a huge pothole and it jerked the car back into the lane so suddenly that I almost drove right over it. Now that I know what to expect, it's no big deal. You can easily overpower the system.

Re speed limiters, yes true although still waiting for confirmation on how those will be implemented.
This is obviously not BMW's doing but the EU. If it turns out to be restrictive the I'm sure that it will impact car sales in the short term and have a big effect for manufacturers such as Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin etc etc. |

What is this speed limiter you're speaking of? What other Socialist Europe garbage did you come up with? It'd better not make it over here or on the cars imported to US

It is meant to get your attention in case you are falling asleep at the wheel. Use your turn signals when changing lane and you will be ok.
