We wish but that's not where the industry is heading. As the saying goes... Be careful what you wish for!
Oh I know, I doubt much will change, jf anything he'll likely push for autonomous driving and electric vehicles since that market seems to be growing

That's exactly what the german press says, or rather, they acknowledge that he has virtually no public profile. It seems for now it's either him or Fröhlich, but the latter is apparently considered too impulsive.

In any case, I wouldn't consider him a done deal, it seems to be some "sources close to the board told us" kinda information.

Maybe they come up with another (external?) pick until the board meeting later this month.

Krueger actually has done quite a lot o "driver's cars" front: M division is rejuvenated with M2C, M5, X3M/X4M and upcoming M8. New 3 is much better "driver's car" too.

The successor will be much more focused on SUVs, crossovers, front-wheel architectures, emerging markets and, as mentioned earlier, electrification/autonomous drive. Don't be surprised.
This is the unfortunate truth.

This guy wasn’t very responsible for BMW’s mediocre driving cars. Those decisions were made in the late ‘00s when the F10, F30, F15, etc. were in development.

The downturn started before Kruger, so he should not take the blame for that. Under his watch some of the earlier missteps were partially redressed . For instance the G20 is an improvement over the F30. The current 5 is a better driver's car than the former one. The G01 is pretty good as a driver's SUV.

As for BMW returning to its roots with the driver's focus some of us wish for, I'd say fat chance. BMW, and all auto makers have way too much to worry about with electric cars, driverless cars, and the potential that fewer may want or need cars as services like Uber flourish.

Not to mention that BMW has dramatically increased the number of vehicles delivered by making their cars appeal to a wider audience. With all these changes in the auto industry and the substantial investment they demand, BMW will not be able to cater to a niche, albeit very loyal, customer group.

Actually, BMW has been focusing too much on drivers’ cars. That doesn’t make much business sense. Best selling BMWs right now are diesel SUVs and 3 cylinder hatchbacks in Europe, and 4 cylinder X3 in NA. So the trend isn’t in favor of ‘“drivers cars”.

people in here giving this guy crap like he is the reason for everything wrong while they know absolutely nothing about what happens behind the scenes. for all we know, this guy wanted to make bmw what it used to be but couldn't. it is such a huge company now with huge shareholders that just want more money. they don't care about enthusiasts.

No it's not.

It's just simply him stepping down instead of being replaced as CEO.

I don't expect any huge change under this new guy either.
So much negative to talk about BMW nowadays.
Hope BMW finds its mojo back from the E46, E39 days.

Those days are gone.

At least enjoy those old Bimmers. And for the time being BMW will support via BMW Classic program.

well I hope that the promotion of a " production chief" results in more Production.

Audi Sedans (5) - A3, A4, A5, A6, A7,
BMW Sedans (4.5) - 3 series , 4 series gran coupe, 5 series , 7 series, 8 series gran coupe
Lexus Sedans (4) - IS, ES, GS, LS
Mercedes Sedans (6) - CLA, A Class , C Class, E Class , S Class, Mercedes Maybach
Volkswagen Sedans (3) - Jetta , Passat , Arteon

I am not sure it's even fair to call the 3 series sedan and 4 series gran coupes separate models as they are on the same chassis.
Note that BMW has no compact sedan to match up with CLA or A class

Audi coupes (4) A3 (cabriolet) A5, TT , R8
BMW coupes (3) 2 series, 4 series , 8 series
Lexus Coupes (2) RC, LC
Mercedes Coupes (5) CLA, C- Class, E-Class, CLS Coupe. S Class Coupe
Volkswagen coupes (2) Beetle , Golf (hatchback)

There is a reason that BMW lost the sales crown to Mercedes...

Must be because you choose not to see what they are doing industry leading. Their SUV sales are off the charts and the SUVs are winking all the comparison reviews. Just because you're not seeing what you want to see doesn't mean BMW isn't class leading any more.

I see it very differently.... let's just leave at that.

Current G series BMW interiors are reviewing very well for interior material quality and fit finish. And what's wrong with the industry leading ZF8 speed auto?
