Big fuel consumption on 320i xDrive
I just got March review from MyTrips and this is insane. Previous months were similar, but recently I started wondering if this is normal or not.
As you can see in attached image it says that my average consumption (10l/100km) is 92% higher of other 320i xD drivers. That stat is worrying 😅. I drive in adaptive mode, so its always comfort mode and rarely sport when on highway. I drive mostly urban rides and a highway at least twice a month. |

That's pretty poor, I'd get your local dealer to run a diagnostic check on the car given you're not driving it aggressively. My March figure for similarly mixed driving (almost always in Adaptive mode) in my 330i was 7.7 l/100km, with a best single trip of 5.4! I always use 98 RON fuel which does help a bit.

I realize it may just be how you intended to write the same thing, but wanted to mention that your consumption average is not “92% higher than others”, it’s higher by some margin than 92% of people having the same model as you.
Naturally this will not be the reality, but technically this could mean that out of 100, 92 people have 9.9L/100KM average, and you are part of the 8 people who have 10L average. It’s still definitely up there, but doesn’t itself mean your average would be 1.92x the overall average consumption for your model that month. |

I get around 10l/100km around the city with a little highway. For me that's insanely good.
I have an M340iX and there's a lot of foot to the floor take off's. Always driving in sport/sports+ modes only. How you drive makes a big difference of course. Yes if I drove the car like a grandma, can easily see lower than that. But I didn't buy it because I cared about fuel consumption, and I ain't a grandma. |

And these engines are amazingly efficient for the power etc they produce. I have seen incredible highway MPG on this this when cruising and thats in Sport mode. |

As KTN already mentioned, you are misreading the stat. You fuel consumption is higher than 92% of other 320i drivers. A lot of them are probably only a little better than yours. The 320i is the least likely model to be driven in an enthusiastic' manner, so most of the drivers are likely driving in a fuel efficient manner. It's also probably comparing you to cars without xDrive too and they have a small fuel economy advantage.
You also state that you mainly drive in urban areas. That varies from fairly free flowing to rush hour gridlock. If you're doing much of the latter then 10L/100km is actually pretty good. |
