Going on 2 weeks with my ‘24 330e. Trying to get used to the minimalistic iDrive 8. Did they remove this setting from iDrive 7 that would turn on heated steering wheel and seats based on the outside temperature? I can’t find it anywhere!

Unfortunately the feature was removed. Best to use the automatic program and when cold enough both will come on.

If you are referring to Remote Engine Start, the cabin will warm to the last set temperature and the heated steering wheel will be activated but the heated seats do not activate.
If you are referring to the settings in Climate Control, use the Automatic Program as the system is fully automated and will turn the temperature, airflow, thrust, and seat heating on/off as it deems necessary. You don't need to tell iDrive 8 how to get you comfortable. It just works. And to get you ready for warmer summer temperatures, this is how to set iDrive 8 for maximum cooling along with a way to automatically get down to a minimal fan temperature so that your wife doesn't complain about it being too cold. No more tap tap tapping on fan speed or MAX AC anymore, it just works: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...85&postcount=4 In fact, you should set these settings now as the same rules apply for Heating as Cooling when choosing the "Dynamic" and "Very Low" options. Didn’t I read somewhere that climate control rules were changed to a subscription?
Ludicrous if that’s the case but check your connected drive and see if it’s on offer for you |

toddwalton - I haven't tried to leave steering wheel heating ON, so I do not know if it acts like seat heating. Are you saying it will turn ON/OFF by itself when the system's logic feels the conditions are right if left in ON state? When it's cold I turn it ON and then I turn it OFF when I do not need it. Seat heating I leave ON as the auto program takes care of switching it OFF after a while.

You are correct, the steering wheel is not part of the AUTO program. It does, however, come on automatically when one uses Remote Engine Start. It's interesting that the seats and steering wheel are inversed in this manner. AUTO program the seats are engaged and the steering wheel is not. RES the steering wheel is engaged but the seats are not. |

Makes no sense for me why should steering and seat heating be separated? And makes even less sense that RES is controlling the steering heating and not the auto program. Anyway seems I would have keep switching it ON/OFF manually

Man this is a bummer. I’ve got a 22 m440i (which I’m assuming is iD7) and I am able to set auto on temps for both seat and steering wheel and I absolutely love it that way. Idk why they would change it as it’s a great feature and works great with this design definitely didn’t need a change imo

I can't answer the question, but I can tell you that BMW completely redesigned the Climate Control system in iDrive 8 and the thing is totally set-and-forget now. Gone are the days of fiddling with thrust and temperature controls, or toggling between MAX AC and LOW, or messing with that red/blue wheel. You just set yourself to these settings (above) and it does all the work. So, while the iDrive 7 steering wheel and seat heating memory presets may be gone, it's made up for by all the other goodness in the new system which does all of this for you automatically. It just works. |

Unfortunately not "all of this" - no auto steering wheel heating

I'm not a fan of the auto climate control program
in idrive 8. The program has activated the heated steering wheel when it was 65 degrees outside but not 35 degrees (with remote start). Hasn't once activated the heated seats with remote start. Did activate the heated seats when it was 70 degrees outside. Wondered why I was sweating driving home from work. The previous system was set it & leave it. Easily set the temps you want things to turn on/off, set fan speed, and forget about it. The only gripe I have in my wife's X3MC with iDrive 7 is the max temp for cooled seats is too low at 68 degrees. Should be able to set it to 75 or 80. I do not care for the climate controls in my M2 with iDrive 8, my only complaint about the car. |
