After driving around I do have some burbles and pops but it's not obnoxious and happens randomly and infrequent which I like better. The exhaust sounds really good in Sport Plus. Honestly I don't need more than this it's perfect, deep and aggressive.

Do you have that option in your iDrive? Interested in coding at all to see if you can recreate that menu in some of these videos and screenshots?... For science?

So comparing your first-hand experience with what's in your OP video would you say that MY2021 is actually throatier than MY2020? In US spec of course.

This is the same Bs they pulled with the 21 A90 supra, toned down the exhaust and less pops and bangs, look like it is a software change but really disappointing, wonder how the 21 z4 m40i is gonna sound as the 19/20 sounded great and made some super loud pops and bangs.

The difference is drastic between the 2020 and 2021 models. I tested both within 5 minutes of one another. Just revving at low RPMs when parked still gives the 2021 a decent sound but while driving the 2020 is definitely much more engaging without being obnoxious. I am ordering a 2021 m340i because I could not get my hands on a 2020 model with the right options. I will be doing something to the stock exhaust as it is too disappointing as is. Possibly MPE, DINAN or other aftermarket solution. I find that at low (less than 2500RPMS) the tone of the 2021 is not bad but once you get any higher in the revs it is nothing more than a stock Corolla. It all depends on what you are looking for in the car but if you are going to pay more for an m340i instead of a 330 than you want to hear the engine and improve your driving experience (in my opinion). Whatever changes I would make however would need to assure that in comfort mode it will not be obnoxious and cause you to be afraid to cold start your car in the morning.

Greetings from sunny Singapore! Just placed an order with my local dealer for an M340i and can’t wait! Like many here, I’m concerned about the exhaust note but was told by my dealer that I will be getting the 2020 version even though the car was built in October in Germany, without the 48V mild hybrid function.
Was a little surprised.. does that mean the German factory had been manufacturing 2020 versions (without the 48V mild hybrid function) alongside 2021 versions (with mild hybrid) as late as October? |

Definitely want to get your opinion. I have an M440i waiting to get on a ship right now. Ordered with black grille and MPE.

Mine is about to dock in Baltimore. I should have my M340i in two weeks with the MPE and compare to my 18 340i with MPPSK.

In anticipation of receiving my 2021 M340i, I am trying to analyze potential aftermarket exhaust systems. I have been looking at the BMW MPE, Dinan Axle-Back, AWE Touring as well as Innotech Performance Exhaust. Apart from the MPE does anyone have any information on these other options with a 2021 model? I would prefer to stay away from the AWE given that it removes the valves which are key to keeping your neighbours happy!

My 2021 M340ix with MPE was delivered November 20th. It was October production + a small holdup at the port waiting for some MP parts. I also have a 2019 M40i which pops a few times (more like gunshots) during downshifts. The M340ix burbles for about 30-60 after cold start when high rev downshifting, but has no burble or pops at all during downshifting after it warms up. It sort of has a handsaw or cheese grater sounding burp when blipping the throttle during downshifts which I find my self heal toe’ing now to get. I also have a BMS cone intake which adds a bit of extra noise (even a bit of turbo flutter sound at higher RPMs). Overall, coming out of a 2017 M4 with MPE, I miss the drawn out burble, but the B58 with MPE definitely has a throater, deeper exhaust note than the titanium MPE on the M4. I also noticed that you can downshift at 4-4.5k RPM on the B58 which you couldn’t do on the dual clutch M4–that required 3-3.5k RPM.
And about tuning, at the moment, the DME was reprogrammed by BMW for MY2021 so there are no current tuners who can off a bench unlock...should be soon, if that’s your thing.

Im depressed. Hopefully its just my ears today. On Monday my car updated the system, today I go for a drive and I swear it sounds quieter and less aggressive. Im either ready to cry or just hate the car. Right now, Im hating BMW for this. They ruined the experience 110%. No "Engine Sound" in the menus either.
