Replacing LCI shifter with pre LCI shifter
I have been trying to join the g20 group on fb since I’ve heard there are people there who have done this, but they won’t let me in so I’m gonna try and get some info here. I really hate the little nub shifter the LCI has and wanna swap it for the pre LCI one, but I wanna make sure it would just be plug and play. Does anyone know if it would, like for example, would slapping it to the left position for manual mode actually put the car into manual and allow me to shift with the shifter instead of the paddles?

I also found this which should help you out:
1. Go onto Ebay and find a 20’-22’ shifter with the same exact buttons on the left (traction control, driver recorder, etc). Should be the same as your OEM layout. 2. Once knob shifter arrives, remove center console trimming, you can easily find videos on youtube on how to remove trim. 3. Once trim is removed, the shifter will be screwed in with T20 screws, remove them and you will see two connections. Remove the two connections and insert it into the new knob shifter. (two connections are circled in one of the images provided) |

I'm in the same boat as you. I love physically shifting as well in manual mode instead of just the paddles and I feel like this would accomplish what I've wanted |

Yeah dude, I even tried listing all my mods one time to check if they only allow modded people in 😭. I just wanna be able to drive with one hand and be able to shift still. Also in the canyons on some turns it’s kinda dangerous to cross your arms on some turns but I have to to shift with the paddles.

What did you search up on ebay? I've been looking and I can't really find any that match my exact layout that I currently have

Help
So I retrofitted the Pre LCI shifter in my M340iLCI and everything works perfectly.Only issue I have is that when I scanned using a launch scanner it threw a permanent error in GWS (Gear switch selector)as follows;
"025E08" Coding: Control Unit Is Not Encoded. Can anyone help me in the right direction or code it remotely? Is it possible to VO code the GWS ecu in Idrive 8 on LCI? Many thanks in advance. |

What did you do about the adaptive button? My car currently doesn't have it and I don't know if its going to cause issues

Nothing, it’s just there. Doesn’t do anything when you click it, no issues caused. If you really don’t like it being there you could always try n find one without the adaptive button.

I might try coding it in to actually work if that’s possible. I contacted a company on eBay that people suggested and they suggested the layout with the adaptive as it best matches what I currently have

selector gonna be here by Monday. How easy would you say the swap is? I ordered an interior pick tool and T20 screwdriver on amazon. Just wanna make sure I'll actually be capable to do this myself. If it's easier than installing JB4, I think I'm good

There’s these two clips on the front of the center console trim that are the biggest pain in the ass to undo and none of the YouTube videos give a good idea of what to do, but besides that it’s a 10 min job.

Any tips/suggestions on the clips?
I've got a shifter here waiting to go, still waiting on the car though. It has at least arrived in my country, just the wrong state - only a few more weeks hopefully. |

Just know that the clips are in these two little holes and you need to still like a pry tool inside and put it to release it. While pushing the tab you have to pull the trim toward you till it unlatches, but be careful not to break anything.
