Was holding out hope for the new M3. But seeing the direction it was going, just ended up getting into a new M850i.

Not gonna daily the c2s? Too many miles? Seems like it would be a perfect car to daily and then go rip at the track ....

I really wanted to like the new M4! I'm a big fan of F82, F10, F90 design. I owned 3 BMW cars in a row. Time for a change! These new designers destroyed the looks of most bmw cars. I'm going with orange 2021 C8 Z51.

It's not fair to use a modified M car (F8x M4) that is lowered and has carbon fiber parts & black grills etc. to compare it against the new Concept 4 series...

If you want a fair comparison, here's what the F3x 4 series concept looked light before launch.

I may ditch the C2S for a C8 if I fit well. Really loving them.

Some tall guys have reported fitting in it well... I'm still hanging out on team #savethemanuals so probably gonna get a truck soon then trade my camaro SS1LE for a 718 GT4 which seems like a really delightful car to own and track ... c8 grand sport or z06 still could be tempting without a manual if they're nutty enough.

I said F90 earlier, but the inability to find a good deal and the whole COVID thing led me to an F97 instead.

Glad I waited on the C8 too, as I don't think I would've been happy with the base model . . . especially with the first year issues some seem to be experiencing.

slightly OT, but man, crazy how the Icon headlights were already a done deal in 2012 but BMW didn't release the actual design until 2018. Talk about stringing us along for reselling us the same car basically 2-3x for some people who upgraded.

Well stated, and that front bumper was horrible.

throw some kinda truck in there and that would sound like one of my short lists, haha. I'm constantly getting told "you can't compare those two" when I cross shop.

Great list, btw. Sounds like you're looking for a fun track capable (but not focused) car to live with. G80 should fit that bill nicely. It'll be hot off the press and should I be a fun little car at a decent savings over that other stuff. If you wadded up your list and removed the electricity stuff, you'd kinda have an M3 lol. True jack of all trades IMO.

To be fair they did sort of release them (a worse version) on the F30 LCI earlier than 2018 but your point still stands

Yeah, the F30 version looks cobbled or unfinished. Like they were trying to "bridge" the design. So glad the F80 uses the coupe front end.

I have been enjoying the conversation...

I think I am in no hurry to buy a new car. I have a deposit on a new GT4 / Boxster Spyder, and I think I will do that. I really do like the BMW cars I currently have, I think my plan is to keep them until I start having issues, I will then move on to something else. This would be with the exception of my 1M I am not planning on selling that ever.

I am not a fan of BMWs design direction, and the value for money seems to be askew. What I found appealing in the past was the conservative interior styling and under the radar exterior styling. As a young person I remember loving the stealth nature of the E34. We now have plastic crystal shifters and huge plastic chrome grilles. I will have a soft spot in my heart for BMW the same way I do for Honda, I have very fond memories of my 91 CRX, however, other than the M2, or a G21 they don't really have any cars that interest me, or sell in my local market, and for what they are asking for an M2 comp, there are better choices elsewhere.

Recently, I have also found the buying / servicing of BMWs a sub par experience overall. I generally pay an independent to service my cars even when I can get the included service for free. At the dealer, my cars come back with scuffs and even though I ask for no wash, my experience has been hit and miss. I am not one to enjoy confrontations, in my mind when you are basically charging double for an oil change, you should be able to complete that without causing damage. I feel like they are in such a rush to turn over as much work as they can daily.

I guess I can be a little Grampa Simpson about things, if I had to choose between my 1M and M3 I would take the 1M all day long. What I take from this, I think my car dollar is best spent with older cars. I almost got a E46 M3 on bring a trailer in February. I think with BMWs I will just keep my eye open for E46s, I can probably get three for what I would spend on a G80.

Honestly I am so confused as to what I should get next. I've always loved the M3, but this new front end may be a deal breaker.

When I eventually see a G80 M3 versus section in this forum, what will be the potential line up of competitors? Anything new outside of the usual suspects?

C63 - 4 cylinder
RS5 - looks too bland, but great interior
Quadrifoglio - The new M3/M4 front end makes this look good. Reliability concerns.
Model 3 Perf - Not quite ready to go electric yet.

My problem is that the RS is a bit too much of sleeper. The older RS models had a bit more pop to them versus the A and S lines. Now they are just to similar. Mercedes has the same problem to an extent and I feel BMW is headed that way with these M-performance models.

How about Cadillac CT4/5-Blackwing?

-Twin Turbo V6 (CT4), Supercharged 6.2L V8 (CT5)
-Manual Transmission
-RWD
-GM Chassis Tuning/Mangneride Suspension
-Cheaper
-Improved interior and infotainment over last model.
