Staying in the F82 until the G80 comes out.

I'm batting around the idea though of cross shopping used 911 Turbos or GT3s from the 991 generation versus ordering a new G80. Also hoping 570s drops below 110K.

Definitely pros and cons to new vs old. Obviously an age-old argument/discussion. I'll be holding onto the M6 GC i have now but not sure I want to hold onto it when that warranty starts getting thin. Also the whole carbon ceramic brakes thing will become a factor. Hmmm. Essentially in 2 years I will hopefully have some fun options including the new RS7? Getting a car like that will also "require" I get a track car of some sort so there's that as well. The mclarens are among my favorites, but seem to be a really fun car to rent, not own (for me). They seem like an asset that would depreciate faster than I could absorb in a short ownership.

I love the new X3... it was 4cyl. and for long trip is perfect and I don't think you need 6cyl.
But I used it just for winter or taking kids places.

Drove the new X5 when I had mine M5 in at service this Saturday, and boy is that something else

Nice! I remember when i got a 2017 or 18 x5 35i loaner, I could not believe how hard it could pull for a big suv.

Will it be innovative enough to excite me? Would be the biggest question.

Current generation M3/M4, is quite an exciting package (minus the steering and sound) especially considering the engineering effort in chassis (directly attached to rear subframe without rubber bushing) and drivetrain (CFRP driveshaft, although BMW killed it recently on MY18+.) In addition, despite turbo charging S55 engine also offers the best throttle response out of its segment due to lag free use of turbochargers and lightweight flywheel. M division in 2014 also has managed to shave off 20kg in reality from E92 despite longer wheelbase and larger dimensions; it is quite an engineering marvel.

On the other hand, I have yet to see G80 news that impresses me. Quite the opposite actually. Only news we hear about is horsepower and AWD for those who care too much about 0-60 and everyday driveability (minus driving skills). AWD doesn't remotely excite me, increased horsepower is easy gain with these turbos (talk to bm3 for possible gains with S55) and doesn't speak for excitement. Hell if it revved to 8,000+ rpm with curb weight of 1,400kg I will consider one. But AWD probably means the end of DCT, which is able to rev to 9,000 rpm, as opposed to ZFat's less than 7,400 rpm. I fear that next gen M3 is gonna be another wanna-be M5 with zero feel between gear changes. No news of innovative chassis, whether CFRP driveshaft will be retained is unknown. Recent development of ///Marketing speaks otherwise.

I also fear that with the increase lineups, M division will stop catering to the once unique 'M3 class' and simply make the M vehicles ranging from bloated (i.e. M8) or shrunken F90 M5 (i.e. M3).

I would love to be proven wrong though!

Holding myself over with an M5 Competition, but both the wife and I find it too big in the city.

I love 4 doors and was about to bail on my 340i for an M2 competition. But with bmwM clearly back in the swing of things I will likely get an M3 when it comes out

If you've got the bones for a 991 TT or GT3, and a 911 is adequately practical, why even bother with an M3?

The 110K+ realm is a stretch for me, currently. That should change to manageable in a year or so. However, I'm also conscious of starting a family in the next few years, and an M3 allows me to do that. 911s and 570s do not.

A 911 would not be bad unless you go GT3 or Carrera T with rear seat delete. Obviously can't do a rear facing car seat, but just get a Honda Civic or Camry as a "family" car. This is coming from someone with 5 kids so I have been there. Once the child is in a booster seat a 911 will become their favorite car.

I am currently driving a Civic Type R which is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. Considering an M3CS or 911 right now, but if I go 911 I will probably not be back for the G80...

Probably look at getting a G80 around 2021-22. First kid will likely come then, so four doors will be a must.
