The 4 Series is a GT, a Grand Touring car, not an uncompromising sports car. A paltry 250 extra pounds is a small price to pay for the Grand Touring luxury of choosing with a flick of a switch, between top down and real coupe with a full size glass backlight.

It was that true coupe experience that lured me away from an awesome V8 in a Mustang or Camaro convertible (and from a bigger chunk of my bank account) and to not even bother looking at Audi or Mercedes.
That bracing is in the lower part of the car and doesn't effect the center of gravity or kill useful trunk space.

If it ends up looking like anything like these two(which I suspect it will) I'd be more than excited!

True, and also that bracing doesn't affect front/rear weight bias (putting the top down increases rear bias) but that's what staggered wheels are for. With that said, if you are looking for ultimate performance (acceleration, handling, braking, etc) a 4 seater convertible — BMW or otherwise — shouldn't be your choice anyway.

As for the trunk: for we who prioritize the four passenger cabin over its trunk, the 4 Series is/was uniquely in a class by itself. For those who prioritize the trunk, there is a long list of also-rans competing for the small convertible pie.

Looks to have less interior space that current generation which btw has less interior space than previous generation.

Why can’t they release a convertible that can comfortably sit 4 adults?

Wait until the prots lose that cone on the front and you'll see plenty comments..I'm pretty scared about this car.

If the grills looked like the ones in the CSL concept i could probably live with it, and even like it depending on the execution..but not the ones from the vision car.

As far as I am concerned they grabbed the idea from the Zagato Z4.

And then morphed it into this new Convertible kidney grill design below it.

I am on my third BMW hardtop convertible and my third Jaguar soft top,

They both have their advantages.

Another alternative is to mount the front plate on a holder that screws into the tow hook. No drilling required, it is offset from center so it looks less fugly, and legal in most jurisdictions.

I have never had an issue or been cited for not having a front plate.

I am really nice when being pulled over so I usually don't get any extra attention.

If you must go with a front plate I prefer the looks of the stock mount to the look of the tow hook mount which looks weird to me.

State police as well as some of the local jurisdictions began citing folks for lack of a front plate in WA. They realized that it is easy cash into their coffers.

I know SCOTT26 said the 4er will look nothing like the 3er anymore.

I made this merely for my own amusement

4-series grill/front end

So is that grill design is set in stone? I like the new G20 3-series very much. If the new 4-series is like the G20 design wise, I would not mind and most likely buy one but not with the grill you sketched in the picture.

The G20 M330i has normal grill but I noticed the M340i has a meshed grill which I do not like either. Why mess with perfection. I think BMW is grabbing a straws because every auto maker copies what BMW does IMO.

Now this looks good!

Thanks

Scott! Can you give us any more tidbits on the G22? Appears the grill will be bisected by the license plate position..

...there must be a few things we can coax you to divulge!

The Coupe should be at Arjeplog for Winter Testing.
Stay tuned it's coming up in early 2019 where the photographers will descend on the small Swedish town at the Arctic Circle. Fighting against the elements and snow shovel weilding residents (manufacturers spend and contribute big in the winter testing months and also employ residents and use the amenities.)

Ha! Fantastic. Thanks Scott. Looking forward to the coupe emerging in 2019. Will we see sale in 2019 as a 2020 ?
