This car better be good. The 3-Series still pays the bills for BMW. I hope they bring back the handling and prowess that was lost in the F30 era.
Or lost from the E46 era!!

F30: one of the worst BMWs of all time. When it bows out it won't be missed!
Super dramatic.

Being realistic about my 340i only the steering leaves something to be desired. Objectively it handles very well with the adaptive suspension. That being said it's likely a lot better than the first couple years of the F30

And I drove a lovely e92 335i prior

That touring looks really GOOD! I wish the US was getting it. I would seriously consider it as my next car when I'm looking to settle down and wanting to update from my E92 335.

I'd take one, but in M Sport, either all electric or if the e Drive version comes with at least 275hp and could drive 20-25 miles electric only and with DCFC option.

Agree completely, the comments about poor F30 handling are typically from people who drive around town at 45mph and think the shitty steering feel = bad handling. I've had several E8x/E9x cars before the current F30 and the F30 blows every one of them out of the water in terms of cornering performance, balance, composure & damping over rough roads (with or even without the adaptive damping option) when the car is actually driven quickly or aggressively.

The E90 was a car that felt solid on the road and had nice steering feel at normal around-town speeds but when you actually pushed it hard, it fell apart quickly. It would understeer and its suspension couldn't absorb a damn thing without the rear jumping all over the place, the rear subframe mounting was too soft so the body would wiggle side to side on top of its suspension, the early generation runflat tires were just AWFUL, etc.

In pure stock form, my 340i is my favorite non-M BMW I've ever had and it isn't even a close contest.

I agree. People just gravitate towards negativity.

Even in Germany there was no 340i Touring with 6MT.

It would be great if BMW finally built the M3 Touring. That could be the only possibility to have 6MT and RWD. C'mon BMW we do not all want M SUVs, bring back the M Tourings too
In their defense the kidneys SHOULD be connected and always were in BMWs besides the 90s-10s.
the separate kidney grilles are a defining characteristic now. between the headlights and the massive grille, its slowly turning into an S4

The current grille is not much bigger than what was seen on the E36. So no...

As someone who drives a car with a separated grille I am not blind to the fact that BMWs are supposed to have a joined grille. They always did have that...you can't change history....and BMW design just seems like they're going back to how it should be...E30 and prior.

we need a BIG step up in interior quality if I'm going to have any JOY with another 3 series. I love my F80 but there is plenty of room to improve. (I'm in the camp hoping for AWD btw, F80 is heavily constrained by traction issues)
Full leather and ZCP go a long way toward addressing your issues.
I've got full leather.

Overall I really like the new design. More of an evolution than a revolution which isn't a bad thing because I think the F 3-Series actually looks really good.

The only part I absolutely can't stand on these renders and hope they change before production, because in my opinion, it looks absolutely terrible, is that stupid bumper indentation in the bottom of the headlights. It looks like a lazy BMW designer was trying to make a visual difference, but didn't care to put in any effort.

Reminds me of the Acura RSX. Take a look at a 2004 RSX and a 2006 RSX and tell me which one looks better!

BMW's Twin Kidney Grilles have always been changing.
They touched on the 2002.
On the 507 and 328 Roadsters, they didn't touch.
On the 328 Roadster and 2002, they were vertical (tall), on the 507, they were horizontal (wide).

Who's to say which one is the "correct" configuration?
Whether they touch or not is not the matter.
The only important (and consistent) thing that shouldn't change is that they should retain the "twin" element from a visual perspective, meaning that so long as they don't merge into a single grille, then it's still a BMW Twin Kidney Grille.

These are two of my favorite bimmers. I think what I'm going to miss most from the last few generations are the angel eyes / halo rings. Yes the new LED designs look cool, but BMW made the angel eye design an iconic design element in just a couple decades. Sad that they're walking away from it now.

Overall I'm really excited for the official unveil. But it already makes me mad that I'm pretty sure that the G20 will get the same exact side view mirror design and shape as the G30 and G11. Why for the love of God, can't they differentiate each series with their own unique side view mirror shapes?!!!
