I feel like BMW went into desperation/panic mode as they saw Tesla eating away at their bread and butter 3 and 4 series sales so they dumped Harold Kruger for not being progressive enough and greenlighted some of these more questionable grille designs in hopes of disrupting the marketplace or at least get noticed by buyers enough to try something "new and different". But at the risk of alienating some their loyal long term customers who preferred their more conservative yet modern designs. It's a Gamble and only time will tell if this change in design direction will pay off or not. My guess is this was done in hopes of stalling further sales erosion while they scramble to try to launch 21 new electrified cars by 2021-23 to compete in the changing market.

These large grilles have been coming for longer than any knee jerk reaction at BMW this past July.

That's the risk that any company takes as they progress and/or change their product(s). A company will undoubtedly upset/lose some older customers, but they will attract new customers. It's the trade off. A company at a standstill is destined to fail.

I agree with you, though I don't agree with their choice to go this direction haha. I do want to see the final design in the flesh before cementing any decision(s), but so far it hasn't been quite inspiring compared to when I first started seeing the speculation on the F8x cars

So much has been said of the G22/G8x grille design, but man, I still can't get over the rear of the G20 looking so much like a design out of the Lexus playbook...

That makes two of us. I find the G20 boring and uninspiring, but many people here love it. I'd rather drive my F82 or an F-Series M-Sport. I am interested to see what you think once the G8X hits dealerships. You and I live in the same city/area, so I'm sure I'll be seeing you around in an Individual G8X at some point thanks to Riverside BMW. LOL!

I love it and makes me excited about G8X M.

The tail lamps have enough depth to them up close in person that I do no™t feel like BMW borrowed too much from others.

It™s pretty sweet how the entire red portion œprotrudes along the rear fascia and other colors of the lamp. I think it helps with projection in low light and looks like a soaring red swoosh/check.

Maybe I’m biased bc of function.

Lol. he's obviously gonna side with BMW. I still don't know how to feel about it. It's definitely something we all will get used to, but I think they can execute the large grills differently from the renders to make the car look better.

Almost anything can look better than that concept grille.

I did not get a chance to go and see it as I was very busy in regards to something we are putting out next year. Hopefully will make the opportunity to see it during the month.

And the wait continues. A good release date for that vehicle would be Halloween.

Having it be black greatly increases the appeal for me. It's more the big, chrome-bordered, in-your-face version on the concept that seems out of place, not so much the size.

I have to admit that I'm actually beginning to like the larger sized G22/G23 grill. A coupe of days ago I saw a current gen M4 in the local Lowes parking lot and while a great looking car, the grills looked undersized for the car. Similarly, I see how dated prior gen Audi A4s look because of their smaller grills vs how much better the larger grill looks on current gen A4s & S5s.
