Some of the best grape juice I ever had was a zinfandel port. I've been back to the winery where I had it, but they don't seem to have any idea what I am talking about. "I *MIGHT* have been drunk at the time"

I didn't get into them yet, but I bought a bottle of Eagle Rare and a bottle of Booker's Bourbon Batch 2016-05 aka "Off Your Rocker". I got the Booker's for $50 which is a steal. Looking forward to this weekend.

I'm a fan of port - - - more so before than I am now, but with winter coming they have there place. I almost always open one for new years to share with my friends or for a special birthday. I haven't purchased any in a long time, but a number of of years ago I buying port on a regular basis and even picked up a mixed case of 1963, 1966 and 1970 ports. Here are a few of the example of wants left of these gems!

I haven't had one turn to vinegar yet, but they certainly change with age. The Brandy they add to kill off fermentation and boost the alcohol level to 20% may have something to do with it! With age ports smooth out, lose some of their earlier power, and the fruit flavors turn more to nutty, tobacco and spice. This explains why they marry well with a cigar.

But then again, I'm also a fan of older Whisky's. For daily drams, I like the younger or NV ones, but for special occasions the older ones since they are almost always interesting or unique in their own way. Like opening a bottle of history.

^^^^^^Barn fire runoff. Like drinking liquid smoke. Not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's your thing.

This is one of my regular favorites (I get it by the case). If you like it, try the 10yo cask strength - harder to get, but about the same price, and usually about 120proof.

  • Springbank 15 yr old. A whisky of impeccable balance.
  • Lagavulin 16 yr old. Another old friend that I almost always have open.
Very few seem to drink Caol Ila and first I've seen it across all the different forums. Great whiskey there!
