My oil change was due at just over 8K so the 10k is just an approximation. The computer will tell you when it's due and for you it will certainly occur before 10k lol

3 Month Update - Had no oil burned from day one. Changed my own oil with BMW ll-17FE (0w-20) at 4060 miles. Now at 6100 without any issues; the oil at max level.

I haven't launch the car yet and mostly drive on Comfort mode. Occasionally, drive above 4K rpm.

living in socal what weight oil do you recommend for performance? im only at 2500 miles since May getting my M340i but am going to mod the car soon here.

i did see Mission Performance recommended replacing the spark plugs which i am going to do thru them when i tune it with them. I have had any issues with oil but thats probably bc my commute is very short and i havent really pushed it too much yet.

Edycol in this forum link below seemed very knowledgeable about what oil to use for our B58. Nevertheless, I am concerned that Castrol 0w-40 (which is no longer a LL-01 rated oil) will somehow cause issues. Since BMW doesn't share what is in the oil, it is hard to say how good it is. I ordered 7 liters of BMW 0w-30 LL-01FE from ECS tuning for my next change.

I think it will be best to ask MP for recommendations.

Feb 2020 M340i

just got the alert at 3,600 mi. City "daily" driver - never launched it, and generally don't drive it hard. Dealer said no leaks, and topped it up.

Hi guys! Just got my first oil warning at 10600km (6600ish miles) and I'm a little confused about what to do.

The car says to add 1 liter of oil and that oil service should be in 17000km. Does that mean I just top it off and leave it at that or should I change the whole oil along with the filter?

Reading this thread is very disheartening to someone that was looking to upgrade from my 335i. I could maybe tolerate 1q every 5000 miles, but not anything less than that on a car with less than 50k miles.

Interested to see how many issues stop after passing 10k miles.

Not sure where I am going to go from here, I was supposed to have an oil change last week but I bumped it up to the end of the month since I was nearing the 1000mi mark since the last service.
Did they actually see leaking oil around the VC or dripping on down pipe?

They claim there is no sign of any leak of oil. They preformed the full oil service at 6,700~ miles.. they stated that they cannot do a true consumption test until the vehicle has passed 10k miles, I do not quite understand this to be honest.

I got my 6th Oil At Minimum Level warning 1100~ miles later at 7,800. I had the dealer top it off when I brought the car in for the Lower Steering Gear Tie Rod Recall, I am not going to pay out of pocket for the oil when the maintenance intervals are advertised at 10k mi for this car.

Don't blame you. Give us an update after you pass 10k.

The former: top it off using 1L and you're done. The 17k oil service is an actual oil change that is due at that time, not sooner. I took my car to the dealer the first 4 times to get this done (too chicken to even pop the hood on a leased car), until even the dealer told me to just have a few quarts in the trunk and save myself a trip each time, because these cars are known to go through oil every few thousand miles and it's very easy to DIY.

While yes it is an easy DIY, the issue is that with a vehicle stating oil service in 10k mi intervals we should not have to be topping off the oil ourselves or even having to take it in every few months to have the dealership do it.

Z4 M40i owner here. Same Engine. My car needed 3 quarts over 7000 mile period. I drive hard. If you had this car you would to. But 3 quarts? Told dealership my car changes its own oil is that a new feature!

12k miles, 1 oil change, 2 quarts added at 4k and 8k.

Broke in the engine properly, always let it warm up before driving hard... But thats all I do, I drive it hard.

People seem to forgot we all drive differently.

If you're in high rpms and driving over 100mph regularly, you will use more oil.

I go to the dealer every 6k miles and just add a quart when once in a while.

I run the oil check every thousand miles and will add a bit more before oil before the car has to alert me.

First turbo and first bmw and it makes sense to me so far.

I have had this twice so far myself. First around 4500 miles and again last week at 8800 miles. Since I was so close to 10k, they went ahead and performed my full oil change and service. Was told to bring it back in after driving another 1k miles for them to do an oil consumption test.

I know some of us driver harder than others, but it still shouldn't be this bad with consumption. I have friends with F30 340i's and they never had this issue. Would like to see if any of the Supra owners are having the same.

It’s every 4K for me. 4,8, oil change at 10, 14.

Interestingly at 4,8. They topped me off on the service drive.

At 14k, surprising they wrote me up. (Porters almost put in wrong oil). So keep an eye out for that.

They said 20k and beyond they would have to run it through the shop.

This is all at one dealer, crevier in SoCal.
