Umm M5 is heavier...
In spite of adding AWD, the M5 is lighter than the previous incarnation.... 20lbs lighter according to BMW and 110lbs lighter, compared to a similarly equipped 2013 MANUAL M5, according to Car and Driver...

I really hope it won't be close to 3800 lbs for the AWD version, not really much of a reason to go M3/4 AWD when I can go for M5 for just a few hundred lbs heavier. Might have to wait for the next gen M2 instead...

No, F82 was lighter than E92. And G82 will be lighter than F82.

Almost all BMWs have been getting lighter since 2012, including even X5, 7 series and 5 series. (G20 is allegedly an exception, but not really.)
The rhetoric in this forum has nothing to do with reality. BMWs are the lightest and best driving vehicles in their respective categories. And there has never been a time when BMWs were ‘raw, small, super light’, like Lotus or something. BMWs have always been sporty but also luxurious, comfortable, and always had cutting edge tech in their vehicles. So when people say ‘Give me a car without any gizmos, light and small like old days’, I don’t know what they’re talking about. Current BMWs are faster, more economical, safer, more refined, better to drive, better built, and way more reliable than any other time in their history.

You are forgetting E30 M3.

One of the most overrated cars in history.
The 4 pot engine sounds like a Honda, and it has quite a bit of body roll.
A modern 230i is better in almost every way. (Except for the 'novelty')

yeah.. I'm sure BMW made progress in the past 30 years

And not all body roll is bad; back when adaptive suspension technology was not available, M engineers had to maximize traction on both rough roads and track which is why they used progressive springs and soft dampers for the best of both worlds. If you want to feel the great lightweight chassis of E30, just put some sport Bilsteins and smaller steering wheel and it is miles better than what current cars offer.

S14 sounds distinct from other 4 cylinders being that it was the cut down version of inline 6 cylinder engine called M88. So if you don't like it, you just don't like highly strung 4 cylinder race engines.

The car has won all the major GT series and DTM races during the golden era of motorsport. I'm not sure if I would call that overrated; it earned every one of its acclaim.

That this was even a question is surprising. The RS4/5 have always been complete porkers

It's funny the convertible M3 or M4 is considered soo heavy whereas people compare the C63S and RS4/5 to the coupe/sedan M3s. Lame.

In terms of weight, the G80 is going to weigh more due to AWD.

Sadly, most guys cross-shop MB, Audi, and BMW all over the globe.

To them it's just german cars equivalent of Chanel or Gucci; if it takes their asses from one destination to another in a "new car" fashion, couldn't care less until they understeer into a wall.
