The genes and DNA of this car lies with another Coupe.
Not as dramatic as THE 4/M3/M4. But still something that will pack a punch visually but with a smaller footprint.

Forget the kidney grills. Look at that front wheel gap! Clearly they forgot it's not an X model. Off-road anyone?

Regular 3 series grills are ok, I hope they don't make ugly grill like in renders

I suck at PS but I messed around a bit with another "concept" that I saw. I see a little something like this in the photos here. Maybe?

So the next 2er will look like a watered down version of that, with enough m135i to make it look meh. I'm getting too cynical about BMW design lol

It'll be entertaining to witness their reactions and attempts at back pedaling when the car is revealed and the grills are indeed large and unlike anything currently in BMW's line-up.
People fear change, man! Meanwhile I'm ready to meet our tall grill overlords

That bottom grill is definitely camouflage. This is reassuring. It looks as if it's not really going to be that drastic of a change

The people at BMW are probably laughing their asses off at us freaking out over the previous renderings.

Other way around. The top portion is G20, bottom you are seeing is bottom of new tall G80 kidneys. Like Scott26 said, clever way of heat testing without revealing new kidneys.

So essentially what you're saying is that the bottom portion of the grille will be extended to the top of the hood and it will be that large ? Holy chet

Oh I'm very serious, but I predict that most will grow eerily quiet and ignore my tag altogether. There will be a few that will man-up and admit that they were incorrect.

If looking at the 340i is where you're searching for comfort, then you might as well be ready for a shock too......

Adding to all the other reasonable interpretations based on all the clues SCOTT26 has been sharing for over a year, the add-on extensions to the G20 fenders mean that the headlight design and hood line is also going to be considerably different than what we're seeing here. Essentially the only thing we have going for us is the lower third of the grille and the adjoining intake aprons. Throw away everything else.
